Studying in English? You Don't Have to Limit Your Search to Foreign Universities

Prague Morning

Prague is truly an international city. It is home to expats from all over the world, people with dual citizenship, students who have grown up in multiple countries, and young professionals working at global companies.

For many of them, English is the natural language of everyday communication. But when they think about pursuing a college education, they often automatically assume they’ll have to choose a foreign university. In reality, however, that isn’t necessary. Unicorn University offers programs taught in English right in Prague.

People living in the Czech Republic still often assume that if they want to study in English, they have to choose a foreign university. However, that is not the only option. It is also possible to study in English right here in Prague. For people who already live here, this may well be the easiest route.

“Programs taught in English have been part of Unicorn University for many years, and our school is naturally open to students from an international background. For people who live in Prague or are planning their careers here, we offer an alternative to foreign universities. They can obtain a university education in English here without having to leave the city where they already have a job, a community, or family. And unlike many popular study-abroad destinations, Prague stands out for being one of Europe’s safest and most affordable capitals,” says the rector of Unicorn University, prof. Ing. Jan Čadil, Ph.D.

Studying without a language barrier

For international students, studying in a Czech-speaking environment can sometimes be challenging, primarily due to the language. If both classes and administrative communication are held in Czech, this presents an additional barrier that must be overcome before even beginning their studies. However, programs taught in English significantly simplify this situation. Students can begin their studies without first having to master academic Czech.

Unicorn University offers an environment that is friendly to students who do not speak Czech. The courses, study materials, and all communication are designed for an international community. This allows students to focus on their education rather than on overcoming language barriers. In Prague, where people from diverse cultures and professions naturally come together, a global learning environment is created.

“Prague is a city where people from many countries work. It is therefore natural that the university environment adapts to this. In this sense, English is a common language that allows people with different experiences and backgrounds to study together. Besides, our students can still enjoy the experience of studying abroad through our Erasmus+ network of partners. Each student, regardless of their nationality, can apply to the program and spend one semester abroad,” says Jérôme Dumetz, Ph.D., Vice Rector for International Relations at Unicorn University.

“They can even enrol in our double-diploma programs with our partner in Germany and graduate with two accredited diplomas, one from Czechia, another one from Germany,” added Dumetz.

International experience in courses

Not only language options, but also study fields and teaching methods play an important role in choosing a university. Unicorn University is built on a strong connection between academic studies and practical experience. It focuses primarily on the fields that are shaping today’s economy—technology, IT, data, and business. It is precisely this combination that is one of the reasons why graduates find employment not only in Czech but also in international companies.

In addition, the faculty includes people with experience not only in the academic environment but also in technology companies or international projects. Students thus frequently encounter real-world examples and topics related to the actual operations of companies and technology teams.

For anyone seeking a program taught entirely in English, there is a path that combines an international environment with a Prague-based setting.

Studying at Unicorn University shows that you don’t have to attend a foreign university to receive a high-quality education in English and gain experience applicable in a global setting.

So if you’re looking for a school that combines technology and business fields with practical experience and an international reach, it might be closer than you think.
