In order to protect their employees, pharmacies in the Czech Republic are starting to install protective plexiglass between clients and staff.
Dr.Max’s pharmacy network began installing plexiglass barriers last Friday installing at the pharmacy in Na Poříčí in Prague.
“Because of the lack of protective respirators, Dr.Max pharmacies were the first in the Czech Republic to use this solution. The prototype was tested on Friday, its production started over the weekend and from today we will begin installing it in all our pharmacies,” said spokesperson Michal Petrov.
Benu’s pharmacies are also introducing new measures. “Our pharmacies are now gradually installing protective plexiglass that will separate pharmacists and patients. Opening times of individual pharmacies may change depending on the situation,” the company said.
Pilulka has equipped all pharmacies with top-class FFP3 respirators but warns that their number is still insufficient. “All pharmacists are equipped with hygienic tools, we started to gradually build protective glasses to separate patients and pharmacists,” said the spokesperson Kateřina Schotliová.
Magistra pharmacies allow clients to book medicines online. “We also sent patients an information letter on how to behave responsibly in pharmacies to protect their health and pharmacists,” said marketing director Zuzana Mocova.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the Czech Republic reached 383 on Tuesday morning, an increase of 39 cases overnight.
Three patients are in “very serious to critical condition” according to the Health Ministry. Half of the positive patients were infected abroad, the others in the Czech Republic.
The total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the Czech Republic has risen to 38 from 32 on Sunday, according to official figures.

For preventive reasons, some Prague universities are closing their classrooms and canceling lessons. CTU decided to interrupt its lessons for two weeks.
“We have three new cases reported. One from the Zlin region is a 41-years-old woman who was on vacation in Trentino, Italy,” said Minister of Health Adam Vojtěch on Twitter.
“She went skiing with her family. She came back on March 7th. We had her tested and today the results were positive,” said Eva Sedláčková, Director of the Regional Hygiene Station in Zlín.
“The other two cases are two men who are close contacts of an existing case. They are currently in isolation at home,” he added.
Prague’s Public Health Authority has opened two hotlines specifically for coronavirus-related questions, at 773 782 856 and 773 782 850.
The Czech National Institute of Public Health can also be reached at 724 810 106 and 725 191 367 from 8:00 to 21:00.
Italy is extending its coronavirus quarantine measures, which include a ban on public gatherings, to the entire country.
Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said that people would only be permitted to travel for work or family emergencies. He said the measures, which come into effect on Tuesday, were to defend the most fragile members of society.
Italy’s coronavirus death toll jumped on Monday by 97 to 463. It is the worst-hit country after China.
The number of confirmed infections also increased to 9,172, up from 7,375 on Sunday, official figures show.
Czech government decides to suspend flights to and from Italy (Milan, Venice, Bergamo and Bologna) and South Korea amid coronavirus outbreak (2019-nCoV).

“We ask everyone to very seriously consider not traveling to those (affected) regions for holiday or ski trips unless necessary, because the danger exists,” Vojtech told a televised news briefing.
All patients are isolated in infectious wards. According to the minister, the course of the disease is not serious.
The first case at hospital Na Bulovce is a Czech man, born in 1952, who stayed at the Italian University in Udine, where he attended a conference.
The second registered case is a woman from the United States of America, born in 1999, studying in Milan.
“She arrived in Prague as a tourist. Later, her condition deteriorated, and she was first examined in Motol. She was treated as potentially infectious, all medical staff had protective equipment, so the risk of infection in the hospital was minimized. Afterward, she was moved from Motol to Na Bulovce Hospital,” added the Minister.
The third one is in Masaryk Hospital in Usti nad Labem, is a Czech man, born in 1976, who was on a ski holiday in Italy in the northern part of Veneto region.
It is not yet clear how many other people that the three came into contact with will be quarantined. None of the patients are reported to be in serious condition.
Vojtěch added that these are individual cases. Thus, the Czech Republic will not take any quarantine measures due to these first three cases.
