Prague City Tourism together with the Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) has decided to extend the schedule of this highly-popular tourist attraction for the summer season, namely from 1 July to 3 September.
The historic tourist tram line No. 42, which regularly starts at 10:00 from the tram loop at Dlabačov, will run every day until 18:00 during the summer months.
Since the beginning of this year, it has covered over 8,000 kilometres and is equally popular with children, who make up a full third of all passengers.
A ticket for the historic tram is valid for 24 hours and passengers can hop on and off at any time during the day.
Along the route, which lasts about 40 minutes, visitors to Prague with a ticket can hop on and off at any time or wait for their preferred car. There are several trams on the line, including unique jewels manufactured in 1908, First Republic cars in Art Nouveau style, or newer versions of trams from the 1950s and 1960s.
The historic tram line No. 42 regularly adds new cars and has been running since 2021, when it first started as part of the At Home in Prague program. Two cars run on line 42 every day.
The odd-numbered services are provided by cars that hark back to Prague’s public transit system in the 1950s to 1970s, while the even-numbered services are operated by cars that recall what it was like to travel in Prague during the First Republic.
“On Saturday, 1 July, it will be exactly two years since the historic line No. 42 began operation. During this time, it has transported more than 82 thousand passengers and interest among tourists and fans of trams or public transport is growing. For the first time this year, the line is in operation all year round and due to the growing demand, we will be running it every day during the summer holidays, always in two series,” said Petr Witowski, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of DPP.
Those interested in travelling through Prague on the historic tram line No. 42 can purchase a ticket at the prague.eu website, at any Prague City Tourism tourist information centre, or directly from the conductor aboard the historic tram, either online No. 42, on the historic tram line No. 41, or on the historic bus line K.
