Flora Metro Station Closes for Ten Months

Prague’s Flora metro station has been fully closed for a major reconstruction that is expected to last nearly ten months. The closure began today. Transport authorities are advising passengers to use nearby stations with tram connections. From Náměstí Míru, tram lines 10, 11, and 16 are recommended. From Jiřího z Poděbrady, passengers should use line 13. From Želivského, line 16 is the suggested option.

Prague Airport Launches Messaging-Based Flight Assistant

Václav Havel Airport Prague has introduced a new digital service called Aviation Assistant. The virtual assistant replaces traditional SMS flight alerts and provides real-time information on departures, arrivals, check-in, boarding, and baggage claim. The service currently operates via WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. Passengers can also access details about parking, terminal services, dining options, and baggage rules. The airport plans to add a live operator option in March.

Taxi Inspections Reveal Widespread Violations

City inspectors checked 1,470 taxi drivers operating in Prague last year. Violations were found in 302 cases, meaning roughly one in five drivers failed to meet legal requirements. The most frequent issues included forged or invalid driving licenses, discrepancies between driver identities and app records, operating without permits, and the use of unregistered vehicles. Authorities say inspections will continue.

Number of EV charging stations in Czechia up by 20 percent

The number of charging stations for passenger electric vehicles in Czechia increased by almost one fifth last year, according to data from the Transport Research Centre. There are now more than 7,500 charging points around the country. The rise in charging stations is linked to the growing popularity of electric vehicles: 21,000 EV’s were sold last year, bringing the total number in Czechia to almost 58,000.

Pope Leo XIV appoints Stanislav Přibyl new Archbishop of Prague

Stanislav Přibyl, the current bishop of Litoměřice, has been appointed the new Archbishop of Prague. He was named to succeed Jan Graubner by Pope Leo XIV, the Prague Archdiocese said on its website. Přibyl will take up the post on 25 April. Graubner was appointed Archbishop of Prague in 2022 replacing the late Dominik Duka.
