J. T. Boe, Lisa Vitozzi or Connor McDavid are just a small taste of the list of famous names you can look forward to this year on Czech sports circuits.
Fans of skiing, ice hockey, athletics or water sports will all find something to look forward to, which includes top motor races and world cyclo-cross events.
Biathlon World Championships: The white trail leads to Czechia
The Biathlon World Championships will return to Czechia after eleven years. The modernised Vysočina Arena in Nové Město na Moravě with a capacity of just under thirty thousand spectators will welcome top world biathlon athletes from 7 to 18 February.
The current World Cup rankings will determine the numbers of competitors for individual countries. This means spectators can look forward to leading biathlon stars – J. T. Boe and Johannes Dale-Skjevdal from Norway, the French Braisaz-Bouchet, Vitozzi from Italy and more. Despite the great interest of sports fans, there are still tickets available. And you can visit interesting places in Vysočina or the nearby city of Brno to fill in the time between races.
Tábor: The Mecca of Czech cyclo-cross will be hosting the prestigious World Cup
The Mecca of Czech cyclo-cross, the picturesque historic town of Tábor in South Bohemia will be hosting the Cyclo-cross World Cup for the fourth time. You will have the opportunity to witness the best world cyclo-cross competitors, who will be competing for seven sets of medals, from 2 to 4 February.
The organisers are preparing a completely new track, an enormous screen and ten stands for competitors and fans, who will, once again, create a roaring ambiance supported by the drummers’ rhythms. You can purchase tickets online.
Hockey World Championships: Czechia will welcome stars of the NHL
The Hockey World Championships in May will certainly be one of the sporting highlights of the year. The championships will begin on 10 May with matches between Switzerland and Norway in Prague and Slovakia against Germany in Ostrava.
Every fan naturally dreams of the best players in the world, such as Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, David Pastrňák, Jason Robertson or Mikko Rantanen competing. Of course, the number of competing NHL stars depends on the results of elimination matches in the NHL Stanley Cup play-offs.
Golden Spike Ostrava
Ostrava will replace hockey players with athletes at the end of May. The city will be holding the prestigious Golden Spike – an athletics competition, which is part of the World Athletics Continental Tour – Gold, on 28 May. Sprinter Usain Bolt from Jamaica or pole vaulter Armand Duplantis from Sweden competed at this event in the past and competitors from the Olympics and world championships will compete again this year.
Canoe Slalom World Championships 2024 and Ladies’ European Tour
June, which is traditionally full of sports events, will also offer the Canoe Slalom World Cup (6 to 9 June) for instance. Like phenomenal Australian Jessica Fox, you too can enjoy wandering through the romantic, narrow streets of Prague Old Town when you’re not watching sports events.
Golf enthusiasts can look forward to the Ladies European Tour, which will be held at the Royal Beroun Golf Club from 21 to 23 June.
WorldSBK
The biggest Czech motorsports event in the summer will be the fourth WorldSBK Superbike World Championship at the racing circuit in Most from 19 to 21 July.
The Superbike World Championships are held on world circuits such as Catalunya, Assen, Donington Park or Phillip Island. Five manufacturers compete in these championships – Kawasaki, Yamaha, Ducati, Honda and BMW, who employ the biggest motorcycle stars to race.
