Prague police are investigating a bold thief who managed to steal high-end mobile phones worth nearly 150,000 CZK by targeting the same store in Pankrรกc three times.
The man, who has yet to be identified, altered his clothing for each theft but wore the same distinctive white Nike sneakers, making him recognizable in surveillance footage.
The first theft occurred on December 29 last year. According to police reports, the man acted like a customer, carefully inspecting phones at the counter. He then pretended to browse the store before returning to the counter, where he cut the security cable of a phone worth nearly 50,000 CZK and left undetected.
He returned four days later to commit the same crime. This time, he swapped his green bomber jacket and dark sweatpants for a light sweater with a white collar and light blue pants. Despite changing his outfit, his strategy remained identicalโremoving a phone by cutting its security cable.
Undeterred by two successful thefts, the man struck again on January 19, this time in the afternoon. For his third visit, he opted for a black jacket, dark jeans, and a green cap with a peak. Once again, he escaped with a phone worth tens of thousands of crowns.
The police have initiated criminal proceedings against the suspect, who faces up to two years in prison if convicted. Authorities are now urging anyone who recognizes the man from the camera footage to contact their hotline at 158.
