Women on the Run, Desperate Ladies Act Desperately, LOVEhunt… the list is never-ending.
B-movie romantic comedies about relationships full of flirting and sexual tension are such an evergreen in the Czech Republic and alongside foreign blockbusters and Czech historical dramas, they regularly feature in the top 10 most-viewed films of the year.
For you to understand this dark side of Czech mass culture, Some like it Czech project decided to screen you a rom-com that is genuinely funny, witty and…. hot. This sexy movie is called Women in Temptation. And suddenly, you are tempted to watch it, aren’t you?
Women in Temptation (watch the trailer) was the most successful movie of the year 2010 in Czech cinemas with over one million viewers. To this day, it is the fifth most visited Czech film in our cinemas ever.
Directed by Jiří Vejdělek, the storyline follows three rather different women. Helena, a respected marriage counselor, one day finds herself in a situation she is counseling her clients with.
Her previously loving and beloved husband is caught in the act with a younger woman, and Helena soon finds herself helplessly facing her new life. Her daughter Laura wants to be supportive, but at the same time, she is coming to terms with her first true love and the dangers it brings.
To Helen’s dismay, her mother Vilma, a former actress who approaches everything with common sense and a great deal of experience and charm, offers a helping hand.
This movie has everything a good rom-com should have, funny montages, at least one great sidekick, a unique and troublesome situation and some questionable dating advice.
This movie might actually teach you a lot about dating a Czech person, but if you are already thinking about dating one, come to our event on 15th of February, where there will be lots of other helpful tips served to you by Prague-based stand-up comedian Julia Ruth Worland.
And if you’ve read this far, you might be wondering what the screening cycle Some like Czech project is about… Well, its goal is to introduce Czech culture to expats living in Prague through Czech movies with English subtitles. The screenings are accompanied by a quick and funny introduction to help you better understand the context of the film. Without spoilers, of course.
Apart from the intro, there will be networking activities before and after the screening. Who knows, maybe while participating you will finally meet your chosen one. *wink wink* Come and meet other expats, foreign exchange students, or even Czech film enthusiasts who regularly visit the screening series or chat directly with the founders of the project about everything and anything that has to do with Czech culture and its film industry.
Some like it Czech project screens Women in Temptation the day after Valentine’s Day, on the 15th of February in cinema Aero. Consider it a Czech irony because Czechs don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day much. They think of it as an American and commercial holiday. So, buy a ticket or two and celebrate Valentine’s Day like a true Czech … by waiting patiently for it to be over.
