Where to Find the Best Tacos in Prague

Today in National taco day in America—yes, there is a holiday just for this traditional Mexican dish. Hailing from Texas, I consider myself somewhat of an expert on this food. Let’s taco ‘bout the three best in Prague—the three amigos—so ex-pats and locals alike can celebrate. 

Cantina

Újezd 42, 118 00 Malá Strana

Walking into Cantina is like stepping into a little slice of Mexico. With traditional ponchos, woven tapestries, flags and animal skulls accenting the pale-yellow wall, the festive feel adds charm. The tacos themselves are served in a soft flour tortilla that is slightly grilled for a little crunch. The spicy beans with a hint of bacon mixed with the juicy meat and topped with the creamy cheese fill the tortilla. The guacamole and red salsa are not the stars of the dish but do accent the tacos very nicely. The menu has something for everyone—including frozen margaritas.  

Las Adelitas 

With three locations in Prague and scrumptious Mexican food, it is hard to think of an excuse not to go to Las Adelitas. The drinks menu is extensive—nine different types of margaritas, specialty mezcal and tequila, homemade soft drinks, and cocktails and Mexican beer. The tacos are spilling with salty meats and cheeses that are complimented by sweet spices and sauces topping the dish. Each corn tortilla taco is served with Mexican rice, black beans, fresh guacamole and some mild to spicy red salsas. Customers will be licking their fingers when they’re done. 

Agave

Masná 620/2, 110 00 Staré Město

Straight in the heart of Prague, an authentic Cali-Mexican restaurant lies. With a basic menu designed by California-bred Christian Dolias of Cutthroat Culinary, the menu has an American feel with the authentic Mexican flavors. Burritos, tacos, quesadillas, nachos and grilled meats with vegetables round out the menu. The sauces shine in the tacos—from salsa verde, salsa roja, escabeche to pineapple salsa with pomegranate, to avocado lime cream sauce. The tanginess dances with the slowly-cooked meats and the fried avocado (for vegetarians). The ambiance is a little upscale and formal compared to the other two, for a more intimate dining experience.
