French Markets Bringing “Joie de Vivre” to Prague’s Kampa Again This Year
The traditional French markets in Kampa Park are among Prague’s favourite summer fixtures, with a range of delights for all the senses.
This year, the French markets will take place from 13-18 July and will be marked by a special floral theme inspired by typical French “marché aux fleurs”, while presenting a range of authentic French delicacies, beverages, and music bringing a taste of Paris to Prague.
The market will be opened on 13 July by the French ambassador to the Czech Republic Alexis Dutertre. This year’s theme will see the markets decorated in a “marché aux fleurs” style, celebrating the arrival of summer with a dazzling display of colours and aromas.
Favourite vendors of authentic French products will be returning to the markets this year, along with two new stands introducing Czechs to French culinary specialties.
One will serve a range of duck-based dishes from the Toulouse region and south-western France, while the other will present the many culinary possibilities of olives, prepared in various different ways including with garlic, chilis, and provencal herbs.
The French foods on offer will be complemented by stands introducing fine local wines. Exhibitors this year will include renowned champagne house Veuve Clicquot – the stand for the centuries-old brand will include a seating area with a long chair, where special champagne-based cocktails and champagne itself will be offered to guests.
The markets are always a treat for music lovers too, and this year will be no different. Czech singer Radka Fischerová, known for her appearances in some of the world’s best-known musicals, will be the star performer, with a live set on 14 July.
A range of other musicians will also feature throughout to bring French melodies and rhythms to the markets.
Last year, the French markets introduced morning programs for children, featuring entertaining performances full of games and magic as the perfect accompaniment to a special sweet breakfast.
The children’s programs proved extremely popular, and this year they will return from 11:00-13:00 every day, apart from 13 July.
For a unique flavour of French culture this summer, head down to Prague’s Kampa Park from 13-18 July and experience food, drink, and entertainment to thrill the whole family.
