Prague for Ukraine: Everything You Need to Know

In response to the war situation in Ukraine, the capital city of Prague is organizing specific assistance to the people of Ukraine.

A number of non-profit organizations have joined forces and created a common website where you can learn all about required assistance, as well as being able to ask for help of any kind.

Assistance Centre for Ukraine

In Prague Congress Centre, Prague City Hall in cooperation with the Central Bohemian Region has put into operation an Assistance Centre for Ukraine.  The centre serves as a focal point for women and children and all other needy people who find themselves in Prague or the Central Bohemian Region while fleeing the war in Ukraine.

The Assistance Centre provides comprehensive services ranging from settlement procedures, health insurance, psychological assistance or help with finding housing and work, information about the education system, etc. The centre also tries to meet requests related to, for example, the provision of specialized health care, the delivery of medicines, and many other matters. The centre is open 24 hours a day and it works in coordination with the information kiosks at Florenc and the Central Railway Station, where those arriving get initial essential information (from 10:00 to 22:00).

Live broadcast

Czech Radio has launched a live broadcast in Ukrainian at the request of the Ukrainian public broadcaster UA:PBC. Internet audio streaming of their radio broadcast in Ukrainian can be run from the website as well as through the mobile application mujRozhlas.cz Czech Radio is also preparing a podcast with practical tips for refugees.

Church Services

Church Services in Ukrainian are held in the Cathedral of St Clement in Karlova street (Sundays 8:30 and 12:00; Wed 17:00 and Sat 10:15) and in the Emmaus Monastery – in the church of St Cosmas and Damian (Fri 18:00) and in the monastery church of the Virgin Mary, St Jerome and the Slavic patrons (Sun 7:45).

Other useful information for Ukraine citizens

Information related to residence permits related to the conflict in Ukraine is available on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Any Ukrainian citizens whose stay is about to expire need not worry about restrictions. Under simplified procedures they can apply for a special type of visa and stay in the Czech Republic.

The extension of the stay system will continue to apply in the coming months. In addition, any Ukrainian citizens can bring their spouse, children, or parents from their homeland and these family members can come to the Czech Republic visa-free with their passport only.
