St. Wenceslas Vineyard and adjacent Villa Richter belong to the Prague Castle complex and shouldnโt be missed when visiting. It is accessible directly from the Castle and from the western side from Malostranskรก metro station.
St. Wenceslas Vineyard is one of the oldest vineyards in the Czech Republic. The vineyard was first planted in 1347 by Charles IV, and itโs been producing grapes ever since.
The vineyard was founded by Czech King Wenceslas II, who was also a Duke of Luxembourg and is situated on south-facing slopes at an altitude of 1,800 feet above sea level.
The climate is perfect for growing grapes, and the vineyard benefits from long sunny days and cool nights.
A variety of wines are produced there, including red, white, and rose. The most famous wine produced at St. Wenceslas Vineyard is the โSt. Wenceslas Cuvee,โ which is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Pinot Noir grapes.
This particular wine has won numerous awards and has been praised by critics all over the world.
The most popular wines here are the Muscat Ottonel, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, and Chardonnay. Sparkling wine is also very popular and is made using the traditional method of secondary fermentation in the bottle.
The vineyard offers tours of its facilities, during which youโll learn all about the history of the site and the wine-making process.
