Severe Weather Ahead: Fog, Ice, and Snow Expected in Czechia

The Czech Republic is bracing for a cold and foggy week, with temperatures dropping below freezing and hazardous conditions on the roads.

Meteorologists warn of fog, ice, and occasional snowfall, particularly in the second half of the week when cold air will push in from northern Europe.

Monday: Freezing Fog and Light Snow

According to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ฤŒHMรš), Monday will see low clouds, fog, and occasional light snowfall across most of the country. In higher altitudes, conditions may clear up, bringing partly cloudy skies. Nighttime temperatures will range between -1ยฐC and -5ยฐC, but if cloud cover decreases, they could drop to -8ยฐC. During the day, temperatures may rise to 4ยฐC, particularly in sunny areas. Winds will be weak, reaching a maximum speed of 4 m/s.

Tuesday: Beware of Ice on the Roads

Similar conditions are expected on Tuesday, with freezing fog and low clouds in some areas. Nighttime temperatures could plummet to -9ยฐC, increasing the risk of ice formation on roads. The ฤŒHMรš has warned that dangerous icy patches may appear even in areas with clear skies.

Midweek: Snow and Freezing Rain Expected

Wednesday will begin with freezing fog and low clouds, which will spread from the northwest during the day. By evening, light snowfall and rain are expected in parts of the country. Nighttime temperatures will remain around -7ยฐC, while daytime temperatures will hover just above freezing.

In the second half of the week, winds will stay light at up to 3 m/s. Thursdayโ€™s forecast predicts cloudy skies with occasional rain or snowfall. Nighttime temperatures will drop to -4ยฐC, while daytime highs will reach 4ยฐC.

Weekend: Persistent Cold and Snowfall

From Friday through the weekend, expect cloudy and cold conditions, with only brief clear spells. Rain, snow, and mixed precipitation will continue, especially in higher altitudes, where snowfall is more likely. Nighttime temperatures will remain between 1ยฐC and -4ยฐC, while daytime highs will not exceed 5ยฐC.
