Prague Zoo gets all the attention — and fair enough, it’s consistently ranked among the top zoos in the world — but the city is also full of smaller, low-key spots where kids can get hands-on with animals.

These mini farms and forest parks are perfect for a relaxed weekend outing, most are free or nearly free, and several are just a short metro ride from the centre.

Here’s our pick of the best small zoos and petting farms around Prague.

1. Milíčovský dvůr – Prague 11

Right on the edge of Milíčov forest, this outdoor farm is home to a horse, an ostrich, a fox, goats, sheep, pigs, rabbits and more. Feed dispensers let kids feed the animals directly, and there’s a sandpit, a wooden playground and a small snack stand on site. Entry costs just 20 CZK. Closed Mondays.

2. Chuchle Grove Mini Zoo – Prague 5

Set on a hillside inside the Chuchle Grove nature park, this zoo run by Prague’s city forestry service cares for injured and orphaned wildlife. Expect to see mouflons, deer, wild boar, owls, lynxes and more — though petting isn’t allowed here, since the focus is conservation and education. Free entry, open 24/7, with a playground and refreshment kiosk nearby.

3. Station of Young Biologists – Prague 5

A mix of indoor and outdoor spaces near Anděl, with a tropical terrarium (crocodiles, monkeys, boas), an aviary, and outdoor pens with kangaroos, llamas, ponies and goats. Regular workshops and interactive shows run alongside the animal exhibits. General entry is free; the terrarium and greenhouses cost a small fee (20–40 CZK).

4. Toulcův dvůr – Prague 10

An 8.5-hectare environmental education centre in Hostivař with cows, horses, chickens, pigs, sheep and goats, plus a cherry orchard, wetlands and a farm-to-table restaurant. Petting and feeding aren’t permitted, but it’s a beautifully kept site for a nature walk.

Wild Garden Hostivař (Prague 15) — rare white fallow deer and mouflons roam near a flooded quarry, with a playground and lakeside walk.
Kunratice Forest (Prague 4) — sheep, dwarf goats and pigs can be fed at the “Na tý louce zelený” restaurant, with spotted deer and mouflons visible along the trails.
Kamýk Forest (Prague 12) — a small goat enclosure and pheasant aviary tucked next to the gamekeeper’s lodge, surrounded by walking and cycling trails.
