Heatwave prompts earlier start for Pardubice races

The organisers of Saturday's horse racing meeting in Pardubice have brought the start forward to nine o'clock because of the extreme heat expected across the Czech Republic. Meteorologists say temperatures will climb well above 30 degrees Celsius this week, with highs approaching 40 later in the week.

Czech PM Babiš may visit China next spring

Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš may visit China next year. The PM told journalists after a cabinet meeting that he and the minister of industry and trade, Karel Havlíček, might go to China in spring 2027, adding that a government-level visit could deliver economic results for Czechia. The Babiš government has sought to improve ties with Beijing since its appointment.

Tram disruptions in central Prague due to track repairs

Tram services have been suspended across part of central Prague as the city's public transport operator (DPP) carries out track repairs in Spálená and Národní streets and on Vítězná Street near Újezd. The disruption affects the section between the Újezd and Lazarská stops. No replacement bus service has been introduced. The works are scheduled to continue until Monday, August 10.
