Thousands ride Petřín funicular on first day back in service

Thousands of passengers have travelled on Prague’s Petřín funicular after it returned to service on Tuesday following a two-year reconstruction. Prague Public Transit Company said 6,210 passengers had used it by 4 pm. The funicular is currently operating in trial mode, which will continue until August next year, with a staff member present in each car to assist in emergencies.

Russian court jails Czech man for 13 days over Red Square protest

A Moscow court has sentenced a Czech citizen to 13 days in detention after he staged a protest near Lenin’s Mausoleum on Red Square. Russian agencies Interfax and TASS reported that the man held an English-language sign which authorities said was intended to “discredit” the Russian military. He was also fined a total of 60,000 roubles, around CZK 15,000.

Tram disruptions in central Prague due to track repairs

Tram services have been suspended across part of central Prague as the city's public transport operator (DPP) carries out track repairs in Spálená and Národní streets and on Vítězná Street near Újezd. The disruption affects the section between the Újezd and Lazarská stops. No replacement bus service has been introduced. The works are scheduled to continue until Monday, August 10.
