Hop growers estimate harvest will be one-fifth lower

Hop growers estimate that this year will be one of the worst in recent years in terms of yields and quality. Compared with the long-term average of 6,000 tonnes, they estimate that the harvest could be up to 20 percent lower. In addition, the crop lacks sufficient alpha bitter acids, which determine its quality.

Number of self-employed people rose by 23,000

The number of self-employed people in the Czech Republic who earn their income through independent economic activity rose by 23,000 to 1.202 million in the first half of this year. Last year, the number of self-employed people, including private doctors, artists, and farmers, increased by 25,000.

Tram disruptions in central Prague due to track repairs

Tram services have been suspended across part of central Prague as the city's public transport operator (DPP) carries out track repairs in Spálená and Národní streets and on Vítězná Street near Újezd. The disruption affects the section between the Újezd and Lazarská stops. No replacement bus service has been introduced. The works are scheduled to continue until Monday, August 10.
