First, it was a bit of an on and off for Zach, before he moved from Lake Geneva, WI to Prague in 2007. Eventually, he met his now-wife and settled. Respectful to the country and its heritage, Zach also wanted to introduce a part of his upbringing. As an American Football player, it was sport but not simply just a sport. It was also about teaching values like courage, family, hard work, faithfulness, and gratitude. This is something everyone needs. Like all the bridges of Prague connecting two sides of the city, he wants to bridge two cultures. The Prague Lions were founded back in 1991 and last won the Czech Bowl in 2006. No mountain too high, Zach took on the challenge a few years ago as an assistant coach and last year he took on a bigger challenge as the head coach and a club owner. Dagmar Herrmannova is originally from Prague and is an expert in educating deaf and special needs children. In 2002, she started her charity work with all this energy. What was a project first turned quickly into an organization called SMILING CROCODILE. When I met her first, I could feel the positive energy surrounding her but also how humble she is despite all the great things she is doing with her team. What is SMILING CROCODILE all about? Based on Dagmar´s professional expertise, she gathered a team of other experts in order to help children with special needs in disadvantaged situations. “There are schools and institutions that take care about these children,” she says “but there are also limits. Most of SMILING CROCODILE´s children need one-o-one care and this can´t be guaranteed at usual special care centres.” In 2012, she opened a special kindergarten and elementary school here in Prague in order to close this gap. At the moment, there is a group of 20 children enjoys the individual care and education they need. This goes beyond the various necessary therapies. Have you ever had your own vision of Prague city? Is it romantic for you? Or sad? Or crazy? Or even ruthless? The exhibition Living in Prague presented three artists’ works, which would be open until the end of August. Cozy and bright place of the House of National Minorities was a great choice for the exhibition. The sunlight wades through a glass wall, emphasizing paintings of Silvia Vezzuto, Prague based Italian artist, who sees the city as a space for “magical” opportunities. “She also brought her friends Mike Köppe from Germany and Assem Al-Sabban from Saudi Arabia to be the authors of the exhibition” Jakub Stedron, director of the House of National Minorities said. Vezzuto believes that everybody can draw and she tries to create opportunities for everyone. “It is in her Italian nature to be open and invite people to enjoy painting”, Köppe says. Jakub originally comes from Martin (Northern Slovakia). He studied film editing and sound engineering. Back in his home country, he was running summer cinemas and a music club. Recently, he moved to Prague as an opportunity came up in the shape of a 70m long boat, which wasn’t being used much at the time. The idea was to open an 80-seat cinema on it with a friendly atmosphere for film lovers to share their passion and hang out. As a Slovak, he feels at home in Prague. Not only are the languages very similar and people understand each other mutually, but he also loves the fact that everything can be found in Prague. From quiet places and historical sites to busy places and modern sites, but the thing he finds the most important, are the wonderful people from all around the world that you can come across in Prague.
