Whitney Houston’s Hologram Coming to Prague in March 2020

The upcoming Whitney Houston hologram tour will kick off in early 2020 with its first round of international dates.  The BASE Hologram event, produced in partnership with the late singer’s estate, will also include dates in England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Russia, and Ukraine.  “An Evening With Whitney: The Whitney Houston Hologram Tour” — which utilizes dancers, a live band and choreography from Fatima Robinson (Dreamgirls, The Academy Awards) — will feature the singer’s most famous hits, including “I Will Always Love You,” “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me),” “The Greatest Love of All” and “Higher Love.” Pat Houston, Whitney’s former manager, and President and her estate, said they’ve aimed to create “wow factor” with the show. “Whitney is not with us, but her music will live with us forever,” she said in a statement.  “Whitney Houston was a talent beyond words, and her influence and artistry transcended all boundaries,” said Brian Becker, Chairman & CEO, BASE Entertainment and BASE Hologram.“What we are creating here is a new type of theatrical concert experience designed to capture that magic. Guns N’ Roses Coming Back to Prague on June 19, 2020

Hard rock band Guns N’ Roses announced European dates for their Not In This Lifetime tour. They will be at Prague’s Letňany Airport (Letiště Praha Letňany) on June 19, 2020. Tickets went on sale December 18 to the general public and to Live Nation club members December 16. Starting on May 20 in Lisbon, Portugal the just-announced tour will hit 13 more cities including shows in London, Vienna, Warsaw, Munich or Dublin. Guns N ‘Roses will present its biggest hits again in front of the Prague audience – at Letňany Airport three years after their last visit in the Czech Capital. ENIGMA – Salvador Dali Museum in Prague

The world’s largest private collection of statues by surrealist giant Salvador Dali has visited Prague. Opened since Thursday, December 12, visitors can visit and view the exhibition called Enigma (“The Secret”) in the newly established museum on Opletalova Street. The Salvador Dali Museum will present visitors with a unique exhibition featuring his most interesting sculptures from his career. Some of his works have brought Dali close to comparison with Sigmund Freud, the famous Austrian neurologist and founder of psychoanalysis theory. “This museum is called Enigma, or ‘mystery,’ and we chose Prague because it has the reputation of being a mysterious city. This concept of the exhibition has been developed for several years and Prague was suitable for it,” says Roberto Panté, creative director of the museum. The individual exhibits are the result of how the paranoia and mental obsessions that took hold of Dali’s mind have led the artist to lose a sense of reality. The Czech Republic Returns Citizenship to Milan Kundera

The author of The Unbearable Lightness of Being received his citizenship certificate at home on Thursday, November 28th. The great Czech writer Milan Kundera was given back his Czech citizenship, announced Monday night at Figaro the Czech ambassador to Paris Peter Drulak in an exclusive interview. “This is a very important symbolic gesture, a symbolic return of the greatest Czech writer in the Czech Republic,” said the diplomat, saying he gave Kundera the citizenship certificate at his home last Thursday in the presence of his wife Vera Kundera, who, he said, played a big role. “Milan Kundera hated the ceremonies and the pathos, it was a very simple moment, but of great conviviality and human warmth, I presented him the apologies of the Czech Republic for the attacks of which he had been the target for years. December 5th: St Nicholas Day

The Czechs have many bizarre and unusual traditions: the Christmas carp in the bathtub, and whipping the women in their lives in exchange for shots of alcohol at Easter, just to name a few. On December 5th is possibly the Czech Republic’s most bizarre, and terrifying tradition: St Nicholas Day. There are a few legends about him, the most known is probably that one, which says how he saved there poor young sisters. Their father had no money, so the girls were about to become prostitutes to make their living. Nicholas heard of it, and at night, when no one could have seen him, threw three purses filled with gold coins into the house, so the sisters were saved. Nicholas inherited a lot of money from his rich parents and thus he gave many other anonymous gifts to the poorest people. Later it was found, that the benefactor was he, and after his death, rich people were anonymously gifting the poor ones in his honor. Thirty Years Ago, a Two-Hour General Strike Took Place

Exactly 30 years ago, on November 27th, 1989, the work in Czechoslovakia stopped for two hours. Between 12 pm and 2 pm, offices, businesses, and factories began a general strike throughout the country. Where they could not interrupt operations, they expressed at least manifestly solidarity by wearing the tricolor national colours on their clothes. The strike was attended by 75 percent of the citizens. “My name is Josef Judas, and I am from a youth team. I want to tell the whole country that Ostrava’s mining and steel are with the nation,” said on November 27th, 1989. That day, not only the miners in Ostrava protested. Afternoon the strikers filled squares all over the country. “Wenceslas Square, at ten past twelve. It’s hard to guess how many people congregated today. Even at this time, more crowds are flowing here, and the adjoining streets are filled. There is a human river from the statue of St. Wenceslas. A Journey Through Childhood With Petr Sís

By Sarah Duchêne—Anglo American University Let Petr Sís, the Czech illustrator and writer of children’s books, guide you across his universe in the exhibition “Peter Sís: On Flying and Other Dreams” at the Dox Centre for Contemporary Art. His drawings will put stars in the eyes of both children and adults who visit this exhibition, which is a retrospective of five of his most famous books, divided in separate rooms to transport you into different worlds of his imagination. Petr Sís is internationally known for his children’s tales, but behind these stories are hidden deeper messages that will resonate in hearts of any age. His stories are also not always born from his imagination, since some reflect his own life’s journey and particularly his childhood, growing up in Prague during the 1960’s. While he is constantly dealing with his complicated past, present, and future in his books, Czechs relate the most to his early life. Festival of Freedom Attended by More Than 200,000 People

Velvet Revolution 2019 is, historically, the largest celebration yet. In Prague, the program of the Freedom Festival was attended by 200,000 people. Concerts, discussions, and screenings were also held in 50 other cities throughout the country. One of Prague’s exceptional events this year was the Velvet Procession, in which 11,000 people followed the memories of witnesses. Albertov, Wenceslas Square and Národní třída were visited by the most people in the history of the Freedom Festival, organized by citizens’ initiatives in Prague and 50 other cities around the country for the sixth time this year. “Thanks to the participants it was a very dignified and sophisticated reminder of this important historical event,” says Jakub Vedral, one of the parade organizers. The official part of the parade program ended at the Vltava River, where thousands of visitors continued to the all-day Korzo Národní program on Národní třída, and in the evening attended the Concert for the Future on Wenceslas Square. Film lovers in Prague can go on a journey into the world of French art: Institut français de Prague is to host the 22nd edition of the French Film Festival from November 20 to 27.
