On Sunday, September 28, Prague’s riverbanks will host the first-ever Vltava Festival, a multi-genre event inviting locals and visitors to experience the river from a fresh perspective. Organized by Kreativní Praha in partnership with Prague City Hall and the Institute of Planning and Development, the festival marks International Rivers Day and aims to present the Vltava not just as a natural feature, but as a hub of inspiration, education, and movement. The program includes performances, expert talks, interactive workshops, and behind-the-scenes access to rarely opened city landmarks. Families, in particular, can enjoy special programming on the Tajemství boat of the Forman Brothers, which will host a one-of-a-kind theatrical performance. Among the most anticipated parts of the day is the chance to step inside areas normally closed to the public — like the underground supply tunnel beneath the National Theatre and Prague’s technical monuments. Children and adults alike can take part in interactive theatre, art activities, and creative workshops held along the embankments. Water lovers can also join or watch the popular “Over Three Weirs” canoe race, a tradition organized by Czech Scouts and known as the largest boating event in the country. Another highlight: floating “Across Prague” through three of...
Imagine the iconic Cotton Club, but transported into the orbit of Saturn, where burlesque meets space, jazz collides with acrobatics, and fantasy blurs with reality. This is the essence of The Saturn Revue, a cabaret show set to debut on September 4, 2025, at the New Spirala theatre in Prague. Bringing together art deco, retrofuturism, and vintage burlesque, this production offers a one-of-a-kind spectacle unprecedented in the Czech Republic. Unlike traditional linear storytelling, The Saturn Revue is a kaleidoscope of dance, fantasy scenes, and performances designed to evoke feelings rather than convey a direct narrative. The evening is framed by a narrator—alternating between Czech actors Jan Cina and Kryštof Krhovják—and a guiding character played by Jasmína Houf. The show unfolds in a 360° experience, surrounding the audience and filling the space above and around them. Produced by Deep Side Production (David N. Jahn aka Sonny Vargas and Terézia Bělčáková aka Miss Cool Cat) in collaboration with Nová Spirála, The Saturn Revue brings together leading Czech and international cabaret artists. More than 26 artists will share the stage, including the “Zodiac Dancers” ballet ensemble, singers, acrobats, and international guests. Nová Spirála: Prague’s Futuristic Stage Reopened after 22 years, Nová Spirála stands...
For the first time this year, the public will be allowed inside Kramář’s Villa, the official residence of the Czech Prime Minister. Located in the Hradčany district, the villa will welcome visitors on Saturday, August 3, with additional open days scheduled for September 6 and October 4. Kramář’s Villa isn’t usually open to tourists. The building, used for state receptions and high-level political negotiations, is a protected government site. It’s a rare opportunity to step inside a property closely associated with Czech leadership. According to Tereza Šťastná of the Government Office’s Communications Department, nearly 3,000 people visited the residence during last year’s limited openings. History and Architecture The villa, accessible from Gogolova Street, was built between 1911 and 1915 by Viennese architect Friedrich Ohmann. Its most famous resident was Karel Kramář, the first Prime Minister of Czechoslovakia. After a full renovation in the 1990s, the building began serving as the official residence for Czech Prime Ministers and a site for ceremonial functions. Inside, guests can tour the Byzantine-style dining room, the Prime Minister’s office, and a billiard room with intricate wooden paneling. The interiors reflect both the personal taste of its first owner and the symbolic role it plays today...
Today is International Beer Day, and in Czechia, the celebration feels especially fitting. Beer is not just a drink here; it is part of the country’s cultural and social life. For Czechs, beer isn’t just something you drink. It’s ritual, tradition, and connection. Whether it’s a quick stop at the local pub after work, a backyard barbecue, or a quiet evening at home, a cold beer often ties the moment together. We drink to celebrate, to reflect, to talk, or simply to be present. Even for those who usually keep to themselves, a beer can turn them into a storyteller. Beer breaks the ice. It builds bridges. It doesn’t judge whether you’re having one or five — it just makes people feel a little closer. And while we’re not suggesting beer as a health drink, it does have its perks — when enjoyed responsibly. A glass contains B vitamins like B1, B2, B3, and B6, important for energy and nerve health. There’s also magnesium, potassium, and even silicon, which helps keep bones and joints strong. Thanks to hops, beer also offers antioxidants. Not quite a detox smoothie — but far from worthless. So what’s the best way to celebrate today?...

If you’ve wandered Prague’s streets, you probably know the usual stories—old kings, famous battles, and stunning architecture. But there’s a lot that rarely gets mentioned: the women who quietly, and sometimes not so quietly, shaped the city’s history. That’s exactly what Prague Feminist Tours is about. Founded by Averil Huck, a long-time Prague resident, the initiative grew out of a personal interest and a desire to make women’s stories more visible. “It was an eye-opening experience to rediscover the city I lived in through the lens of women’s history. When I moved to Prague, I started looking for something similar here… and realised it didn’t exist.” At the time, she was working at the Centre for Gender & Science at the Czech Academy of Sciences and noticed a glaring gap. “There were so few accessible, English-friendly resources about Czech feminism or women’s contributions,” she adds. That sparked the creation of Prague Feminist Tours—the first English-language walking tour in the city dedicated to women’s history. It’s not just about dates and facts; it’s about real women who fought for education, voting rights, and social change—stories that can surprise and inspire. One of their standout tours, To The Roots Of Czech Women’s...

Dan Brown is returning to the spotlight with his latest thriller, The Secret of All Secrets, set entirely in Prague. The internationally renowned author will present the novel in the Czech capital this September, although the exact date and venue remain undisclosed. What’s already confirmed, however, is that Netflix has secured the rights to adapt the book into a series, with Brown and showrunner Carlton Cuse (Lost, Jack Ryan) attached to the project. The novel, to be published simultaneously in English and Czech on September 9, follows the familiar protagonist, Professor Robert Langdon, who arrives in Prague for a lecture by noetics researcher Katherine Solomon. Their plans quickly unravel following a gruesome murder, a disappearance, and the resurfacing of ancient Prague legends that drive the plot into deeper mystery. According to publisher Argo, the book weaves Prague’s gothic landmarks, folklore, and esoteric history into a narrative full of puzzles, codes, and conspiracies. The Charles Bridge and Old Town Bridge Tower even feature prominently on the cover. This isn’t Brown’s first encounter with Prague. He has visited the city several times, including a 2021 performance at Municipal House, where the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, under Kryštof Marek, performed his Wild Symphony....

A newly renovated arch under the Negrelli Viaduct in Prague’s Karlín district has found a unique purpose this summer: a temporary library branch specializing in comics, fantasy, sci-fi, and board games. As part of a pilot program, the arch will operate as a branch of the Municipal Library of Prague for two years. This phase will test both its economic viability and public usage before similar renovations begin on other arches along the viaduct. Open Tuesdays through Thursdays until August 28, the library welcomes visitors from 3 to 6 p.m. You can borrow books, comics, and board games, or engage in hands-on activities such as making badges, magnets, or painting miniatures. The library’s focus is on fantasy, sci-fi, comic book culture, RPGs (Role-Playing Games), and small craft projects. The afternoons are divided thematically: Tuesdays host RPG sessions, Wednesdays feature creative workshops, and Thursdays are reserved for more complex board games. The games lineup extends beyond classics like Carcassonne and Dragon’s Lair to include lesser-known titles and thematic events. In addition to gaming, the library plans to host events with genre authors. Among them is Vilma Kadlečková, writer of the popular Mycelium series, who will participate in readings and discussions....
What will Prague’s transport look like in 2050? An ongoing exhibition at the Centre for Architecture and Metropolitan Planning (CAMP) offers a look ahead. Prague Tomorrow? Connected City, running until 26 October 2025, presents a bold vision of how rail transport could reshape life in the Czech capital—and beyond. The exhibition, which opened in March, shows how rail is undergoing a renaissance around the world. Prague is no exception. Plans are in motion for dozens of new lines and tunnels that will redefine how people travel across the city and connect Prague to the rest of the country and Europe. “Passenger rail transport is on the rise and plays an increasingly important role in suburban and long-distance transport. More than half a million new inhabitants are expected in Prague and Central Bohemia over the next few decades. All of them will need to get to work, school, or travel—and our new rail links must be ready,” says Transport Minister Martin Kupka. High-speed rail will connect Prague with Dresden, Wroclaw, and Vienna, with trains reaching speeds of up to 320 km/h. The trip from Ústí nad Labem to Prague Main Station is expected to take just 26 minutes. Metro Line D,...
