As a means to help restart the tourism industry, the Government of the Czech Republic will be delivering 1 billion CZK in the form of vouchers worth 4,000 CZK.
The government and the Senate have approved a new law on the compensation bonus which introduces two new bonus periods from November 22, 2021, to January 31, 2022. Self-employed persons and entrepreneurs with a drop in sales of at least 30% in this period will be able to apply for up to CZK 1,000 per day. The law will now be signed by the president. “The continuation of the compensation bonus for entrepreneurs is a natural response to the negative development of the covid pandemic and related government measures, especially in the area of services, which mainly concern unvaccinated citizens. After consultations with business associations and chambers, the new law keeps the model of increased assistance of up to CZK 1,000 per day for self-employed persons and entrepreneurs, who can thus reach a total of CZK 71,000 in two set bonus periods. I am pleased that this model has found strong support across the political spectrum and that the Financial Administration will be able to start paying money to those affected as soon as possible,” says Finance Minister Alena Schillerová. The first bonus period is specified from November 22 to December 31, 2021 (40 days); the second bonus period from...
If your day doesn’t start until you’re up to speed on the latest headlines, then let us introduce you to our new morning fix. Some 42,000 young people aged 18 to 29 years registered for the booster COVID vaccine dose in Czechia on Tuesday, the first day when they could do so already in five months after the complete inoculation instead of six months. The salaries of Czech politicians, judges and prosecutors should be on same level as last year as of February, Prime Minister Petr Fiala told journalists after a cabinet meeting that approved the bill on Wednesday. Fourteen senators have signed a motion to abolish the directive on the mandatory COVID-19 vaccination of some professional groups and seniors over 60 in Czechia. They argued that the directive is in contrast with the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms. A record number of Czechs, more than 713,000, switched their electricity supplier in 2021. The high number is a consequence of the bankruptcy of the country’s largest alternative energy supplier Bohemia Energy. The Czech government decided on Wednesday to cut isolation restrictions for those testing positive for COVID-19 from 14 to five days, and also similarly shortened quarantine...
The Czech government said Wednesday that people who test positive for Covid-19 should isolate for five days.
It is ensuring that vulnerable individuals receive the protection they need. Local and national governments worldwide are urging citizens to get the COVID vaccine as soon as possible in order to protect themselves and the people around them. While booking an appointment and visiting a General Practitioner sounds simple, it can be a challenging – and sometimes, impossible – a task for someone with impaired physical mobility. As The Mayor.eu reports, the Czech Red Cross (CRC) has teamed up with the Association of General Practitioners, the University Hospital in Motol, and the Municipal Polyclinic in Prague to help vaccinate immobile citizens from the comfort of their homes. Vaccinating unregistered patients On 4 January, the Czech capital revealed that 22 GPs are currently involved in this project, visiting vulnerable individuals with the help of CRC drivers. Together, they have managed to administer more than 520 doses since the beginning of the project in the fall of 2021. Commenting on the work of the mobile vaccination teams, GP Ludmila Bezdíčková shared: “During the COVID-19 pandemic, many patients’ health deteriorated to the point where they were unable to physically go to the doctor’s office, moving to their families, for example, and finding it...
The initiative had 4,664 signatures from police, fire and rescue workers. They say vaccination should be a personal decision.

The Prague Municipal Court on Tuesday sentenced Czech national Martin Sukup in absentia to 21 years in prison for his role in a terrorist attack and participation in a terrorist group for having actively joined the fights on the side of pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine. The Czech government is considering cutting the period people must isolate over Covid-19 to five days. At present those who test positive for Covid, including those who are asymptomatic, must stay home for two weeks. There were 205 rail deaths in the Czech Republic in 2021, which was the lowest figure in 19 years. The number includes people who died on the national train network, Prague’s Metro, cable car systems and trolleybus and tram lines. A new Czech law relaxes rules surrounding the prescription of medical...
Four women suspected of being involved in manufacturing and selling falsified COVID-19 vaccine certificates have been detained in Vsetín. According to iDNES, these false documents are believed to have been sold for a price between 2 and 7,000 crowns. The women are suspected of providing fake Covid certificates to over 70 people, for which they took in almost CZK 500,000 “An anonymous letter addressed to the management of the Vsetín (Zlín Region) hospital drew our attention,” said Chief Inspector Petr Jaroš. Two women are suspected of accepting bribes, forging and altering the documents. Two other two worked in the Vsetín vaccination center and registered those interested in the systems without physically undergoing the vaccination,” Jaroš added. The four women now face different penalties for crimes, the highest of which is up to five years in prison. Digital vaccine passports, and vaccine passports in general, have been a topic of heated debate across Europe. The news of falsified documents made headlines in October after fake certificates belonging to Adolf Hitler, Spongebob and Mickey Mouse were discovered. It was assumed that these had been made to show off what the counterfeiters were capable of. The hacker group Chaos Computer Club (CCC) told lawmakers...

By way of comparison, the average in the European Union (EU) was 5.1 deaths per 100 000 inhabitants in 2019. Pedestrians registered the largest reduction among all road user groups from 2000 to 2019, with 70% fewer road deaths in the latter year. Likewise, cyclists, occupants of passenger cars and moped riders saw strong fatality reductions of 58% or greater over this time. The new National Safety Strategy for 2021-30 is under development and will...

Until now, a third dose was only available for this group six months after receiving a second vaccine dose. Security forces against compulsory vaccinations Over 3,200 members of the country’s security forces – police officers, firefighters, rescue workers and soldiers – have signed a petition against compulsory vaccination of people in high-risk professions. The FFP2 masks, which offer superior protection, are also mandatory in such places. Several European countries, including Estonia, Latvia, the Czech...
If your day doesn’t start until you’re up to speed on the latest headlines, then let us introduce you to our new morning fix. The Czech Supreme Court (NS) has rejected the appeal of German tourist Benjamin Wittig who had been handed a one-year suspended sentence, a 100,000-crown fine and a five-year expulsion from Czechia for spray painting the Charles Bridge in 2019. President Milos Zeman on Monday appointed Zdenek Nekula of the Christian Democrats as regular agriculture minister, finalising the government of the Together coalition (Civic Democrats/ODS, the KDU-CSL and TOP 09), the Pirates and Mayors and Independents (STAN). On April 14, the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic voted in favour of a bigger protection of cyclists on the roads. 67 out of the 102 present deputies (the number was lowered due to the Covid-19 pandemic) approved the proposal laid before the Chamber by Petr Dolínek of the Czech Social Democratic Party. Only two deputies voted against the motion. Road users will have to give 1.5 meters of space to cyclists while overtaking, 1 meter in areas with a maximum speed of 30 kph. A somewhat heated debate preceded the acceptance of the proposal. Some of the deputies based their arguments on their own experience of sharing the road. “It is an easy, predictable method, tried and tested in other countries,” said Ondřej Profant, a deputy for the Czech Pirate Party. In 2019, cyclists accounted for 8% of road deaths in the EU. Cyclists and pedestrians are an often neglected category of road user when it comes to road safety measures. While more car occupant fatalities are prevented due to better in-vehicle protection, the decrease in the number of vulnerable road users’ fatalities has not followed the same pace. France, Spain, Germany, Belgium and Portugal have all...
