On September 22, as part of World Rivers Day, the Vltava River and its surroundings will host the first annual multi-genre festival “Know the Vltava,” the largest of its kind in Europe. Spanning from the Podolská waterworks to the Old Wastewater Treatment Plant in Bubeneč, the event will feature tours, artistic performances, workshops, and special programs for children along the embankment. This event will bring together over three dozen participants, showcasing the river’s significance in various contexts—from its crucial role in the city’s infrastructure and environmental impact to its cultural and sporting influences. Currently, 35 companies, organizations, and cultural institutions are involved in the preparations, with more than eighty activities planned. Organized by the municipal organization Kreativní Praha, in cooperation with the Prague Institute of Planning and Development (IPR Prague), the festival will offer most activities free of charge. The central theme of the festival is education about the river and its conservation. Recently, Prague Morning had the pleasure to meet LaDana Edwards, a successful entrepreneur and the founder of skincare clinic Face Place. She shared with us her inspiring story, including her challenges and what brought her to Prague. In 1999, LaDana came to Prague for a two-year assignment with Deloitte, where she worked as a tax manager. Captivated by the weather and the cosmopolitan culture, she fell in love with the region and joyfully decided to extend her stay. “I find Prague to be my spiritual home; I really love it here,” she says. Admission fees have increased at about half of the outdoor pools and swimming pools in the Czech Republic, rising by 10 to 25 percent compared to last year. While higher energy prices drove previous increases, this year’s rise is mainly due to changes in labor agreements. The rate of increase in entrance fees depends on the size of the pool. Larger pools will see a more noticeable hike, while smaller pools, especially in villages, will maintain last year’s prices. Due to the administrative burdens associated with work agreements, some temporary workers are shifting to full-time employment. This year’s weather fluctuations have delayed the start of the summer season. Typically, pools open in late May and early June, but this year, the forecast suggests visitors will start swimming in mid-June. However, some pools in the Pilsen, Ústí nad Labem, and South Moravia regions have already begun their season. The Festival of Microbreweries at Prague Castle is an annually event taking place in the beautiful premises of the Royal Garden of Prague Castle, on Střelecka cesta below the Royal Summer Palace. Microbreweries are the waters of life and a modern phenomenon of brewing skills. Twenty-five years ago there only existed one microbrewery in the Czech Republic, the brewery U Fleků; today there are approximately 170. The organizer is the Czech-Moravian Association of Microbreweries, which aims to present to the public the production of microbreweries from all over the Czech Republic. The participation of 51 Czech and Moravian breweries has already been confirmed, as well as the participation of guests, which this year are breweries from Hungary. The festival is unique in that it is a tasting event, where the aim is not to sell and drink as much as possible, but to taste and get to know the Czech beer culture. The Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is one of the most significant events of its kind in Europe and ranks among the most famous in the world, second only to the Brazilian Carnival. This Saturday, Prague will get a taste of this vibrant celebration filled with colors, music, and dance.
