Prague City Tourism has launched a live stream from Old Town Square, where tents are currently being assembled for the traditional Christmas market. The webcam will run until January 6, 2023, so everyone can take a peek at the market and get in the holiday spirit. The event is broadcast live from the Old Town Hall observation tower on YouTube. The Christmas Market at Staromak opens on Saturday, 26 November, and runs until 6 January (daily from 10:00 to 22:00, individual fast-food tents until 00:00). This year’s tree is a 25-meter tall and 58-year-old spruce that has made its way to the Czech capital from a small North Bohemian village of Kytlice. The tree is decorated with red Christmas balls and light stars of various sizes. There are 88,490 LED bulbs on the tree. The tree lights will be on daily from 16:00 to midnight. A light animation will take place daily at 16:30, 17:30, 18:30, 19:30, 20:30, and 21:30. From 19 November, you can once again enjoy the Čapadlo ice rink with a beautiful view of Prague Castle. Bring your own skates or rent them on-site! The summer open-air embankment will be soon turned into an ice rink right in the center of Prague on the Smetana embankment. “We fought hard to keep cultural life on Čapadlo. A year-round activity is necessary and thus we keep the premises clean and, most importantly, alive,” says Prague 1 councilors. In July 2021, this exceptional space was created for leisure and cultural activities. The vaulted passage in the embankment wall, called a “čapadlo”, or mooring point, is located under the Hollar Gallery on the Smetana Embankment right at river level. A park of Christmas light installations recently opened at Žluté lázně in the Podoli district of Prague. You can admire 311 various sculptures created with 400 thousand light bulbs. The park was organized by Taiko, which has been organizing fairs, including Christmas fairs, in the center of Prague for many years. The park features sculptures of animals found in Bohemia – magpies, gulls, eagles, swans, deer, as well as various decorations with recognizable symbols of Prague. Typical Christmas motifs are also present: bells, light gates, stars, snowflakes, an angel and Christmas decorations. There is also an interactive installation in the park, accompanied by an excerpt from the symphonic poem Má vlast by Bedřich Smetana. There is also a special educational trail for children, with interesting facts and a quiz with valuable prizes. According to the organizers, very economical LED lights are used for the installations, which consume a total of 8 kWh. If you visit the center of Prague or any Czech town on the 11th of November, you might see a man on a white horse leading a procession… These processions are in honor of St. Martin, patron saint of the poor, and the white horse represents winter and snow. Not only on this day but for most of November, look for restaurants serving goose and St. Martin’s wine (Husa a Svatomartinské vino) which is the traditional food for the feast day. The reason behind this tradition is that it is said a flock of geese betrayed St. Martin’s hiding place and we have been eating roast goose on this day ever since. The Illumination Park is an amazing winter attraction – a multimedia walk in a fairy-tale land created by light and sound. These types of attractions have been known in American botanical gardens for years. Now they are becoming more and more popular in Europe. Located near the Džbán swimming pool in Prague’s Šárecké údolí, you can visit a unique light attraction called Lumina Park. It is a 1.5-kilometer-long light trail full of illuminated and sound sculptures based on the motifs of Alice in Wonderland. Many light attractions await visitors, including a red bus, colorful balloons, bicycles, magic mushrooms, stars and birds, which are exciting scenery for unique shots. The trail consists of 18 stations, built of 20,000 light points and 20 km of electrical installations, for which 120 floodlights were used. “Lumina Park is built on energy-efficient LED technology and meets all energy standards.
