This is the fourth year in a row Apple chose to shoot its commercial in the Czech Republic, both in Prague and in the famous “Big America” area (Velká Amerika). Apple unveiled the latest iteration of its fitness wearable, the Apple Watch Series 5, on Tuesday as it introduced the iPhone 11 at its annual September event. As the fifth iteration of one of the best-selling fitness wearables, the Apple Watch and its suite of apps focuses on user fitness, biometrics and health research. The Watch Series 5 will have an always-on display while delivering, Apple says, the same all-day, 18-hour battery life as previous models.
The Mastercard Global Destination Cities Index 2019, released this week, ranks 200 cities based on how many international overnight visitors they’re set to receive this year, based on actual 2019 monthly data and the weighted average of national-level tourism forecasts. The index shows the number of international overnight visitors in these cities growing by a whopping 76% since 2009 — but in recent years, the trends look pretty similar. For the fourth year in a row, Bangkok is the No. 1 most popular city on Mastercard’s Global Destination Cities Index. In 2018, the Thai capital welcomed 22.78 million international overnight visitors, with 3.34% growth forecast for 2019. London was the only city on the current top 10 that saw a visitor decline year-over-year — a nearly 4% drop. Asia-Pacific cities have seen the largest regional increase in international travelers since 2009, with a more than 9% increase spurred by rising numbers of mainland Chinese travelers. Here are the 19 most visited cities around the world in 2019, ranked in ascending order by the total number of international visitors they’re set to receive. Bangkok — 22.78 million Paris — 19.1 million London — 19.09 million Dubai, United Arab Emirates — 15.93 million Singapore —...

Summer is drawing to a close, and long summer days by the river, trips to the beer garden, and long hikes in the country are all about to become a thing of the past in Prague. However, there’s no need to despair. Autumn is one of the best times to be in Prague. During September and October, wine festivals explode into life throughout the country, giving you the chance to taste some extremely reasonably priced vintages in style. One such event is the Troja Wine Festival, which takes place this year on 14 September, in the courtyard of the Troja Castle in Prague 7. Prague’s Troja district is known for its vineyards and winemaking has a long tradition there. Since 1999 the City District Prague-Troja in cooperation with the Prague City Gallery has organized here the traditional celebrations of wine and young wine. Winemakers will present their products. Furthermore, one can look forward to an afternoon degustation, informal seminars about wine in the castle cellars and an accompanying program – puppet theatre, dance and fencing, games, folk music and dancers and much more. The summer is almost over, and chilly September mornings are reminding us that autumn is just around the corner. That’s the time to start looking for indoor activities. For a long period of time, I’m trying to find a fitness activity which 1. is going to be fun, 2. I can practice with my partner and 3. will see the results after. As I don’t really enjoy a gym environment the first thing which came up on my mind was a squash. I think many people underestimate squash as a proper workout. If you think squash is a wellness sport welcome to the club. However, the opposite its truth. Squash is one of the most intense sports in the world. It’s an amazing cardio activity and while you are focusing on return each smash – you don’t have time to think you actually are working out. The best piece of advice is not to play squash because you want to burn your calories, but to play it because it is a fun activity. But just to play squash is not really enough. It’s a very physically demanding sport that’s why we highly recommend including some cardio and weights. Otherwise, after the first season, you will not...
A new report from the World Health Organisation (WHO) reveals that people in European countries tend to consume more alcohol compared to other regions in the world. According to this study, released on 4 September, adults in EU member states, Norway and Switzerland drink on average the equivalent of more than two bottles of wine per week. However, the consumption of alcohol is not homogeneous across Europe – the lowest level was registered in northern and southern EU member states and the highest in the middle band of countries. Germany, the Czech Republic, and Lithuania are the heaviest-drinking countries in Europe, while Norway and Italy recorded the lowest consumption of alcohol across the continent. Across the European population, 30.4 percent of people reported having consumed more than 60g of pure alcohol on one occasion in the last 30 days – this is equivalent to more than five drinks. The WHO report also reveals that such heavy episodic drinking is a problem in Europe. Drinking a large amount of alcohol to become intentionally intoxicated, also known as binge drinking, was most common among the adult population in Germany, Luxembourg, Czech Republic, Slovenia, and the Baltic countries, while it is least prevalent in...
Once again, the all-time 10km lists underwent major revision at the Birell Prague 10km, an IAAF Gold Label road race, on Saturday. In the women’s race, both winner Sheila Chepkirui (Kenyan )and runner-up Dorcas Kimeli(Kenyan), who finished just half a step behind, were credited with 29:57 performances to become just the second and third women to cover the distance in under 30 minutes. Only their Kenyan compatriot Joyciline Jepkosgei, who set the 29:43 world record on this same course in 2017, has run faster. In the men’s race, Geoffrey Koech fought off Mathew Kimeli in the waning stages to reach the finish line in a world-leading 27:02, equalling the legendary Haile Gebrselassie as the fourth fastest man ever. Kimeli clocked 27:07, to move up to No. 7 all-time. The women were off to a blazing start, with Chepkirui, Kimeli, and Norah Jeruto, better known as a standout steeplechase, reaching the midway point in 14:46, a pending world record, with Fancy Chemutai another second back. That group was soon winnowed down to just Chepkirui and Kimeli who fought it out until the closing meters when Chepkirui finally prevailed by about half a second.

The Czech Republic ranks among the best countries in the world for foreign residents, according to a new survey carried out by international foreign resident community InterNations. Overall, the Czech Republic ranks 10th out of 64 destinations. It ranks second in the world for working abroad, as well as among the best countries for families (fourth) and quality of life (seventh). Almost all respondents (96 per cent) rate the opportunity to travel highly, while 95 per cent are impressed with the transportation infrastructure in the country. However, it’s not all good news for the Czech Republic: the country ranks just 56th globally for ease of settling in. Foreign residents in the Czech Republic are particularly unimpressed with the friendliness of the locals: just two in five (40 per cent) rate the general friendliness of the population positively. The language barrier is one issue that gets identified as a problem Although 56 per cent of respondents agree that it is easy to live in the country without knowing the local language, just 13 per cent agree that learning it is easy. In fact, fewer than one in ten (nine per cent) can speak it very well.
Vienna has held off Melbourne to retain the top spot on the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Global Liveability Index for 2019, further strengthening its reputation as the world’s most pleasant city, while the ‘gilets jaunes’ protests hurt Paris’ score. Melbourne, Australia took the second-place spot, following close behind Vienna’s score. Vienna had taken the top spot from Melbourne last year after seven consecutive years at No. 1. Sydney, Australia; Osaka, Japan; and Calgary, Canada make up the remaining top five on the annual Global Liveability Index of 140 cities around the world. Not one U.S. city landed in the top 10 this year. Honolulu scored the highest among U.S. cities, ranking 22nd. Atlanta trailed at 33rd, followed by Pittsburgh at 34th and Seattle at 36th. The EIU’s index ranks cities by five headline criteria. Stability and culture & environment are the two most important categories, weighted equally at 25% of the total. Healthcare and infrastructure are also matched at 20%, with education coming in last with a 10% weighting. Damascus in war-torn Syria remained the worst-ranked city, below Lagos in Nigeria and the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka, which swapped places. The world’s most liveable cities 2019 1. Vienna, Austria 2.
