Czech railway RegioJet has started selling train tickets from Prague to Rijeka, Split and Ogulin. HRTurizam reports that the summer railway line that connected Prague and Rijeka last tourist season attracted great interest from Czech and Slovak tourists. The seasonal service will run from June 16 to September 30, 2023. The average train occupancy was higher than 90%, with a capacity of almost 600 passengers per line, while trains carried a total of more than 60,000 passengers in both directions. The train route will run through Brno and Bratislava to the Croatian cities of Zagreb, Ogulin and Rijeka. There you can take a bus to other resorts of the country, including Split. And in June, the RegioJet train will also stop in Kolin, and from July to September – in Pardubice: In combination with bus transport from Rijeka and Split, RegioJet promotes and offers arrivals to as many as 56 destinations in Croatia. The City of Prague has begun to consider additional ways to attract tourists to the capital of the Czech Republic. Recently, the city has increased the budget for media campaigns supporting tourism by 8 million crowns. In 2023, the municipal government will provide 30,850,000 CZK to events which promote tourism, as well as organizations such as the Prague Audiovisual Foundation Fund. The increased spending is expected to support a more vibrant and full calendar of cultural events, which will draw greater numbers of tourists to the capital. The additional funding of 8,350,000 CZK will be allocated to Prague City Tourism for the production of marketing campaigns, promoting cultural events, sustainable tourism, as well as addressing the negative impact of increased tourism on locals in the city. One such campaign – At Home in Prague – seeks to nurture domestic tourism, whereas another project – Stay in Prague – is a campaign which promotes the wealth of cultural history in the city. Czech President Petr Pavel said on Wednesday he would sign a bill slowing down an inflation-linked pension hike, a bill the ruling coalition pushed through to relieve pressure on budget at the time of soaring inflation. The centre-right government of Prime Minister Petr Fiala has said the bill would save around 20 billion crowns worth of spending in the central budget, currently planned with a 295 billion-crown deficit this year. The change has to be implemented by late March in order to prevent the faster pension hike which would kick in automatically in June. The bill is the government’s first tangible move to rein in the exploding budget deficit. The central state budget showed a record gap of 119.7 billion crowns in the first two months of 2023, due to soaring welfare payments and energy price subsidies. The pension adjustment bill was approved in a rushed procedure earlier in March and after a fight from opposition lawmakers. President Petr Pavel says he will sign into law a government bill under which the indexation of state old-age pensions will be reduced in June. “Supporting the bill had not been an easy decision, but in the current circumstances there was no good solution that would work for everybody,” he said. Production of passenger cars in Czechia rose by 26.2 percent year-on-year to over 215,000 vehicles in January and February, according to data released on Wednesday by the Association of the Automotive Industry. Czechia’s postal service plans to lay off several thousand employees this year due to declining interest in its services, the company’s director Miroslav Štěpán told the news website Seznam Zprávy on Wednesday. He also confirmed a previously announced plan to close some 300 branches of the postal service. A new weight loss medication, Wegovy, will be available in the Czech Republic soon. Although hydrogen powered cars are readily accessible in the Czech Republic, fuelling stations are far less prevalent. With the completion of Prague’s first hydrogen car fuel station, this is slowly starting to change. Over the course of the past several years, there has been a significant influx in the interest in hydrogen fuel cells, with automobile manufacturers starting to invest in this technology for both commercial and domestic usage. Currently, three models of hydrogen cars are available in the domestic market, manufactured by Toyota and Hyundai. Without further investment in more fuel stations, the growth of the market for hydrogen cars will be stunted in the Czech Republic. This problem has been addressed by the completion of the first publicly available hydrogen station with 24/7 operation in Barrandov. The hydrogen fuelling station is owned and operated by Orlen Unipetrol, a Czech chemical company owned by Polish oil company PKN Orlend. Effective 18 July 2023, Prague Airport is getting a direct connection with the Taiwanese capital of Taipei. The direct route from Taoyuan International Airport to Václav Havel Airport Prague will be operated twice a week (with departures from Prague on Wednesdays and Sundays). China Airlines has decided to use Airbus A350-900s to service its flights between Taipei and Prague. Jiří Pos, Chairman of the Prague Airport Board of Directors, considers the new long-haul route to Southeast Asia to be a great success: “We have been striving for a direct route to Taiwan for several years. I am therefore glad that our negotiations have yielded results and we can offer this direct service to Czech travellers. Moreover, this route will provide passengers from Prague with the possibility of convenient transfers to a number of China Airlines destinations in Asia and the Pacific. The popular medieval festival Středověké slavnosti is relocating from the courtyard of the Břevnov Monastery to the Maxe van der Stoela Park, near Prague Castle. The family-friendly event is scheduled to take place on May 27th from 10:00 to 19:00, according to the event organizers. The festival promises to transport guests back in time with musketeer battles, dueling knights, live medieval music, dancers, acrobats, and fakirs. Various workshops, refreshments, and souvenirs will also be available at a themed fair. Tickets will be available for purchase on-site, with prices to be announced at a later date. Last year’s tickets cost 180 CZK for adults and 100 CZK for children, while guests in medieval costumes were admitted for free. The historical and stage fencing group Allgor is organizing the event. British airline, EasyJet, has announced the addition of another route from Prague, marking its return to the Lyon route in France. The airline previously operated on this route for the past decade, but Volotea has been the sole operator since EasyJet withdrew. However, Volotea will discontinue its services only for July and August, and will continue afterward. The announcement of EasyJet’s return to the route was made by Prague Airport on its Twitter account. The carrier will offer two flights per week on Mondays and Fridays, with the service starting on 4th September. Departure times from Prague are scheduled for 9:30 am on Mondays, and 1:35 pm on Fridays. The return route from Lyon is scheduled for 7:15 am on Mondays, and 11:20 am on Fridays, with flights arriving in Prague at 11:25 am and 3:30 pm, respectively. Return tickets are currently being offered for less than two thousand crowns, and sales are available only until the end of October. Volotea also operates the route on Mondays and Fridays. This marks the twelfth destination offered by EasyJet from Prague.
