Effective 18 July 2023, Prague Airport is getting a direct connection with the Taiwanese capital of Taipei. The direct route from Taoyuan International Airport to Václav Havel Airport Prague will be operated twice a week (with departures from Prague on Wednesdays and Sundays). China Airlines has decided to use Airbus A350-900s to service its flights between Taipei and Prague. Jiří Pos, Chairman of the Prague Airport Board of Directors, considers the new long-haul route to Southeast Asia to be a great success: “We have been striving for a direct route to Taiwan for several years. I am therefore glad that our negotiations have yielded results and we can offer this direct service to Czech travellers. Moreover, this route will provide passengers from Prague with the possibility of convenient transfers to a number of China Airlines destinations in Asia and the Pacific. The popular medieval festival Středověké slavnosti is relocating from the courtyard of the Břevnov Monastery to the Maxe van der Stoela Park, near Prague Castle. The family-friendly event is scheduled to take place on May 27th from 10:00 to 19:00, according to the event organizers. The festival promises to transport guests back in time with musketeer battles, dueling knights, live medieval music, dancers, acrobats, and fakirs. Various workshops, refreshments, and souvenirs will also be available at a themed fair. Tickets will be available for purchase on-site, with prices to be announced at a later date. Last year’s tickets cost 180 CZK for adults and 100 CZK for children, while guests in medieval costumes were admitted for free. The historical and stage fencing group Allgor is organizing the event. British airline, EasyJet, has announced the addition of another route from Prague, marking its return to the Lyon route in France. The airline previously operated on this route for the past decade, but Volotea has been the sole operator since EasyJet withdrew. However, Volotea will discontinue its services only for July and August, and will continue afterward. The announcement of EasyJet’s return to the route was made by Prague Airport on its Twitter account. The carrier will offer two flights per week on Mondays and Fridays, with the service starting on 4th September. Departure times from Prague are scheduled for 9:30 am on Mondays, and 1:35 pm on Fridays. The return route from Lyon is scheduled for 7:15 am on Mondays, and 11:20 am on Fridays, with flights arriving in Prague at 11:25 am and 3:30 pm, respectively. Return tickets are currently being offered for less than two thousand crowns, and sales are available only until the end of October. Volotea also operates the route on Mondays and Fridays. This marks the twelfth destination offered by EasyJet from Prague.

Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Yevhen Perebyinis discussed Czech Republic’s patronage of the restoration of Dnipropetrovsk region with the delegation of the Czech Republic headed by the Governmental Envoy for the Reconstruction of Ukraine Tomáš Kopečný. Perebyinis expressed gratitude for military, financial, and humanitarian assistance provided by the Czech Republic to Ukraine, in particular, within the Government program for 2023-25 framework that was adopted in October last year. “The implementation of a number of specific projects was discussed, including prospects for the interaction of two sides in the context of the Czech patronage over the reconstruction of Dnipropetrovsk region,” reads the statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. In a huge blow to legalization efforts, the Court of Appeal ruled that publishing a magazine about cannabis can be deemed illegal because of the so-called “spreading of toxicomania”. Robert Veverka is editor-in-chief and sole publisher of magazine Legalizace, which has existed in the Czech media space without any problems for more than ten years. After over a year battling in court, he has been ordered to pay a fine of more than 250 000 CZK, and the court ruling effectively bans him from publishing the magazine in the future. Bolshevik relics in the law According to the court in Ostrava, the magazine offered instructions on how to illegally obtain cannabis, how to grow, process and use the plant. From time to time there were also seeds inserted in the magazine, since the sale and possession of cannabis seeds is completely legal in the Czech Republic, and there were disclaimers attached. Petr Pavel, Czechia’s president-elect, reportedly intends to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensy in April. The recently inaugurated Czech president agreed on this during a phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday, which according to Pavel’s spokeswoman was requested by president Zelensky so he could congratulate Pavel on taking office. The visit will be part of a wider diplomatic trip abroad, including to Brussels, after Pavel’s official inauguration into office on March 9. “Czech support is crucial for Ukraine in fighting against [the Russian Federation]’s aggression,” Zelenskiy tweeted. Russian war symbols were seen among the thousands of protestors gathered in Prague to protest war and poverty on Saturday, with some attempting to tear down the Ukrainian flag that has been hanging outside the National Museum over the past year. Besides displaying Russian war symbols, some protestors held banners stating, “STOP the war, STOP NATO”. “I expect the organisers to distance themselves from these acts of violence. It gives the impression that the entire so-called demonstration against poverty was just a cover for pro-Russian provocation, and we certainly cannot be tolerant of such manifestations,” Rakušan told Czech Television on Sunday.
