Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair will launch two new direct flights from Prague. In 2023, the carrier will start flying to Gdansk in Poland and to the Greek island of Skiathos. The Prague-Gdansk flight will start on March 29. It will be operated twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The city is located on the shores of the Baltic Sea, and its historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tickets are already on sale. Round-trip standard fares start at CZK 2,800. The seasonal flight to Skiathos Island will be launched at the beginning of the vacation season, on June 2. It will also operate twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays. A display of 480 pairs of shoes, representing the disappeared civilians in Ukraine, was staged on Old Town Square in Prague today. Amnesty International, together with Ukrainian designer Margarita Chala, aimed to bring the atmosphere of fear and hopelessness closer to the public. The project’s goal, according to the movement, is to call for an investigation into Russian war crimes in Ukraine as soon as possible. The PID Lítačka mobile application used to purchase tickets and coupons for public transport in Prague and the Central Bohemian Region has a new function. Users can now easily pay for car parking in Prague’s paid parking zones through the app. With a credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, it is now possible to pay both the public transport fare and the car parking fee with a single app. According to Aktuálně.cz, the new features announced by the Prague City Council are already active. Adam Scheinherr, Prague’s deputy mayor for transport, stated in a broadcast on ČRo Plus that “this new function is much more convenient for the user. Beginning next year, Czech Universities may be required to issue new diplomas to people who have undergone a gender transition. This policy marks significant progress for transgender and LGBTQ+ rights in the Czech Republic. Starting from January 2024, anyone who has undergone gender reassignment surgery is eligible to apply for a new diploma which contains their new name and preferred pronouns. The proposal was created as a joint effort between The Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports – led by Vladimír Balas, and the Minister of Science, Helena Langšádlová. There are currently no stipulations in Czech Law which lay out the procedure to modify one’s diploma, and subsequently, Czech Universities are reluctant to issue new diplomas. This issue was noted by former ombudsman Anna Šabatová in an open letter addressed to the Minister of Education at the time, Robert Plaga.
