The Czech government has approved a package of three laws that focus on the fastest and smoothest possible registration of refugees, their integration into the work process, the provision of insurance and the admission of children to schools. Financial support: Humanitarian aid of CZK 5,000 is available for holders of special visas. The financial support should be used primarily to cover basic living needs and it will be distributed by the regional branches of the Labor Office. The European Commission will provide 70,000 vaccines to the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Moldova to vaccinate the children of Ukrainian refugees, the EU Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides announced. Three hundred thousand Ukrainian refugees have already arrived in the Czech Republic. Almost half of the refugees are children, and many of them do not have vaccinations against certain childhood diseases or tetanus. The 18-month-old Ukrainian girl with burns on 60 percent of her body who was airlifted from Poland to Prague has undergone the first out of a series of demanding surgeries and her condition is critical but stable, the Vinohrady Teaching hospital’s spokeswoman told CTK on Wednesday. Czech doctors specialized in burn treatment removed parts of necrosed tissues from the girl’s limbs and replaced them with donated skin that the hospital produces at its eye and tissue bank. “We carried out necrectomy on almost 30 percent of the body surface, on her limbs. It is a very demanding surgery that brings along blood loss and extreme heat loss,” clinic head Robert Zajicek said. “Such heavily burnt children lose their body temperature very quickly and cannot regulate it on their own through the skin like healthy children do.” It is the first transport of a burn victim to the European Union since the beginning of the Russian aggression. The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky, thanked the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala, on Tuesday for his support in the framework of the Russian invasion. Through his account on the social network Twitter, Zelensky highlighted to Fiala the security and humanitarian assistance provided to Ukraine, which he described as “significant”. The Czech Republic expelled one member of the diplomatic staff at Russia’s embassy in Prague, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday. “(The person) was requested to leave the Czech Republic within 72 hours. Together with our Allies, we are reducing the Russian intelligence presence in the EU,” the ministry said on its Twitter account. Earlier on Tuesday, Belgium announced the expulsion of 21 Russian diplomats, and the Netherlands expelled 17 Russian intelligence agents who were accredited as diplomats. The 21 Russians working at Moscow’s embassy in Brussels were all accredited as diplomats but were working on spying and influencing operations, a ministry spokesperson said.
