The supermarket chain Coop will open what it is calling the “Supermarket of the Future” in Strakonice, South Bohemia. The store is built around the ideals of innovation and transparency, officials said, and merging physical and digital by augmenting a traditional food market with interactive displays and smart shelves designed to make shopping more relevant and personalized. Display screens that overhang products provide information about an item — including its origins, nutritional facts, the presence of allergens, waste disposal instructions, correlated products and promotions — triggered by customer gestures. Customers can go groceries 24 hours a day, seven days a week. At the exit, instead of a checkout register and cashier, there are simply automated gates that open when you pay with a credit card. Czech PM Reveals What the Country Needs From its Next President

Czech PM Petr Fiala has commented on the country’s lower wage growth, the nuclear alliance with France and the ongoing search for President Miloš Zeman’s successor in an interview with Seznam Zprávy. Fiala discussed at length his efforts to get on with President Zeman despite their clear political differences and expressed his desire for the country’s governing parties to find a common candidate for Zeman’s successor. “I think the public rightly expects me to be able to talk to Miloš Zeman, even though we each represent different voters and different views, and that’s how it should be in a democracy. Czech Budget Deficit Hit Record High in 2021

The Czech central state budget showed a 419.7 billion crown deficit at the end of 2021, Finance Ministry data showed on Thursday. It is the largest deficit in the modern history of the Czech Republic, surpassing the CZK 367.4 billion deficit registered in 2020. However, it is still below the CZK 500 billion ceiling approved by Parliament. Adjusted for funds from the EU, the end-December budget would show a deficit of 408.4 billion crowns, versus 364.9 billion crowns deficit in the previous year. Overall expenditure rose 3.5% while income was up 0.8% in 2021. Since the start of the year, the Czech Republic has been on a provisional budget, which is expected to last until the end of March. This is because the Chamber of Deputies failed to approve the draft state budget for 2022 by the end of last year. The central budget is the main part of the EU country’s overall public sector finances, which also include local and regional administrations, the health insurance system and various off-budget funds. The ministry has forecast the 2021 public sector deficit at 7.2% of gross domestic product. For 2022, the public gap is estimated at 4.4% of GDP.

Number of Airbnb in Prague Have Fallen by Half

Almost seven thousand apartments with a total of 18,732 beds were offered last July by landlords in Prague. That is half of the apartments compared to July 2019. It emerged from the analysis, published by the Institute of Planning and Development Authority (IPR). It is no surprise that the majority the beds offered on Airbnb are located mainly in the city centre and its surroundings. The reasons for this are obvious – it is used mainly by tourists who prefer accommodation within walking distance from tourist destinations. Largest selection provides: New Town (1,696 units) Old Town (957) Vinohrady (726) Žižkov (616) Smíchov (459). Another surprising finding is that there is a drastic reduction in tourism. How to Get the Compensation Bonus, and What are the Conditions?

The government and the Senate have approved a new law on the compensation bonus which introduces two new bonus periods from November 22, 2021, to January 31, 2022. Self-employed persons and entrepreneurs with a drop in sales of at least 30% in this period will be able to apply for up to CZK 1,000 per day. The law will now be signed by the president. “The continuation of the compensation bonus for entrepreneurs is a natural response to the negative development of the covid pandemic and related government measures, especially in the area of services, which mainly concern unvaccinated citizens. After consultations with business associations and chambers, the new law keeps the model of increased assistance of up to CZK 1,000 per day for self-employed persons and entrepreneurs, who can thus reach a total of CZK 71,000 in two set bonus periods.
