Did you know that the world’s longest suspension bridge will soon be completed in the Czech Republic? The suspension bridge is being built in the mountain resort of Dolní Morava in the northeast of the Czech Republic. Hikers will step on the bridge at an altitude of 1,125 metres. The bridge will span the valley of Mlýnský Potok, connecting the opposite ridges of Slamník and Chlum After crossing the valley, visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the local nature and history. In collaboration with local authorities, the municipality of Dolní Morava and the Museum of Czechoslovak Fortifications, have created an educational trail called the Bridge of Time with elements of augmented reality. The total construction will weight over 400 tonnes and the main rope will have over seven centimetres in diameter. The longest suspension bridge in the world is currently located near the Portuguese town of Arouca. It measures 516 meters in length and its height above the ground reaches up to 176 meters. On Saturday evening, for the first time this advent, the City of Prague (DPP) sent a fleet of festively decorated vehicles to the streets travelling to the Three Kings. Among them are the Škoda 15T For City tram No. 9401, the T3 tram No. 6921, the popular Mazačka and the Irisbus Citelis retrobus. This year, the cable car on Petřín also joined in, both cable cars to Petřín, including the upper station, have been decorated and Passengers can ride them on regular flights. In addition, DPP also decorated the historic two-axle Ringhoffer tram No. 2210 and the Museum of Public Transport. Airline company PLAY is happy to announce its operations between Reykjavik and Prague starting in May 2022. PLAY will be operating two flights weekly between these destinations from May 5, 2022. PLAY is a new low-cost airline operating flights between Iceland and Europe. The Icelandic airline is based in Reykjavik’s Keflavík International Airport and started operations in June 2021. PLAY operates three new Airbus A320 neo aircraft. “The entry of PLAY airline is a good sign that the Czech market is still attractive for new carriers who perceive the potential of direct flights to / from Prague. Since the new government restrictions have been introduced in the Czech Republic, involving the abolition of Christmas markets or restrictions on the opening hours of restaurants and bars, interest in New Year’s Eve stays in Prague has dramatically decreased. The operators of accommodation establishments and the Association of Hotels and Restaurants of the Czech Republic (AHR) reported that people have not been registering new reservations- they are instead waiting for the situation to develop. AHR President Václav Stárek says that the government should state as soon as possible what restrictions will apply at the end of the year. According to Stárek, after the declaration of a state of emergency, which applies until December 25, and new restrictions, there has been many booking cancellations, especially from abroad. Starting on December 6, before boarding a flight to the United States, air travelers aged two and older, regardless of nationality or vaccination status, are required to show documentation of a negative viral test result taken within one day of the flight’s departure. You must show your negative result to the airline before you board your flight. That includes all travelers – U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents (LPRs), and foreign nationals. This year’s meteorological autumn in Prague’s Klementinum ranks among the ten percent warmest autumns in 247 years, according to monitoring conducted by the oldest Czech meteorological station. The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMI) stated on their website that the average temperature from the beginning of September to the end of November was 11.6 degrees Celsius, which is 1.8 degrees higher than the long-term average noted from 1775 to 2014. November alone recorded a temperature average at 6.3 degrees Celsius this year. “This autumn, with its average temperature, ranked 14th to 16th out of 247 previous autumns since 1775, so it comfortably made up ten percent of the warmest autumns in 247 years. Only about five percent of autumns were warmer than this year,” meteorologists said. The warmest autumn recorded in Klementinum so far was in 2006 with an average temperature of 13.2 degrees. The coldest autumn was measured in 1786 with an average temperature of 5.8 degrees Celsius. In November this year, the average monthly temperature in Klementinum reached 6.3 degrees. The future government said it will immediately cancel the current health ministry’s measures for mandatory COVID-19 vaccination from March 2022 for people over 60 and doctors, nurses and police officers as soon as it assumes power. It said it would do so immediately after it assumes power. “The future health minister will cancel this order, we do not agree with that,” said Marian Jurečka, leader of KDU-ČSL party (EPP) that is expected to be part of the future governing coalition. According to Jurečka, the current caretaker government has not used all the available tools to motivate people to get vaccinated. “We will not impose mandatory vaccination for specific age groups. Regarding certain professions, we want to hear from representatives of the unions,” Jurečka told Czech Television.
