Coronavirus infections rates in the Czech Republic hit a new record for the second time this week, the Health Ministry said on Saturday. It announced that the daily tally jumped to 22,936 on Friday, almost 500 more than the previous record set on Tuesday. The country´s infection rate has risen to 929 new cases per 100,000 residents over the past seven days. In a worrying sign, 110 people died on Thursday, the ministry said, with the daily death toll surpassing 100 for the first time since April. The government has approved new restrictions to tackle the surge, targeting the unvaccinated in an effort to increase a vaccination rate that is below the European Union average. Starting Monday, most unvaccinated people will no longer be allowed to show negative coronavirus tests in order to attend public events, go to bars and restaurants, visit hairdressers, museums and similar facilities or use hotels. Only people who are vaccinated or have recovered from COVID-19 will remain eligible. Overall, the nation of 10.7 million has registered almost 2 million cases with 32,005 deaths.

In the 1970s, Florenc cut the highway, becoming one of the most heinous places in Prague. A hub for international transport, it’s the first thing you see when getting off a train or bus. Now, planning is underway to transform Florenc into a livable community. Currently, there are three designs in the finals of the architectural competition. In the 15th century, Charles IV allowed the Italians to settle in the region. This is probably where the local name came from — Florenc. Now, architects from several countries are applying to help revitalize the area. Three international teams succeeded with their proposals, and the winner should be announced Dec. 1. For the first design, three separate groups joined together: architects from the Czech studio Unit Architekti, A 69 architects and the studio operating mainly in London Marko & Placemaker. The covid pandemic canceled last year’s Christmas markets, but the first festivities of this year’s season will return Saturday, Nov. 20. Náměstí Míru will be filled with traditional assortment and delicacies. The festive atmosphere will be extended to Tyl Square the following Friday. Both markets will be open until Christmas Day, per a Prague 2 press release. The advent in Prague 2 mainly includes cultural, social and family events, all of which are usually organized by the town hall during this period. While the 2021 selection sees no new Stars, both Field and La Degustation Bohême Bourgeoise retain their One Michelin Stars. The shapes and forms of learned reality leave little space for observation of non-physical variables, such as moments and emotions. However, for those willing to connect with a feeling of complete integrity from the familiar lay of the land, the artist Victor Pivovarov offers such an opportunity. His exhibition “Moscow Gothic” curated by Julia T. Bailey covers all periods of Pivovarov’s life starting from his childhood in Moscow (born in 1937) till the present. He could be considered a local artist since in 1982, Pivovarov moved to Prague, where he still resides with his wife. Pivovarov is one of the founders of Moscow Conceptualism – a trend in Russian modern art that attempted to avoid Soviet Socialistic ideology – and his Moscow Conceptualism paintings are the main feature of the exhibition. Czech President Milos Zeman will appoint centre-right opposition leader Petr Fiala as the new prime minister on Nov. 26 following last month’s election, Fiala said after meeting the president on Wednesday. The Together group led by Fiala and a coalition of the progressive Pirate Party and the centrist Mayors won a parliamentary majority in the Oct 8-9 vote and pledged to replace the outgoing government of Prime Minister Andrej Babis. The new administration will take power amid a renewed surge in Czech coronavirus infections, which on Tuesday hit an all-time daily high of over 22,000. Babis said on Wednesday the government would bar non-vaccinated people from access to public events and services from next week.
