Year-on-year sales prices for new apartments in Prague have increased by an average of 5.5 percent to CZK 112,233 per square meter compared with 2.2 percent appreciation last year, housing developers report. Data from construction companies also showed that the number of apartments sold has skyrocketed by about three-fifths to 2100, the most in the last ten years. At the same time, the number of apartments offered has dipped by more than a one-tenth to 4200, the least in the last three years. By category, developers sold mostly two-room apartments, namely 44 percent. They were followed by one-bedroom apartments (23%), three-bedroom apartments (22%) and four-bedroom apartments (11%). Of the individual districts of the city, developers sold the most apartments in Prague 5 (23%), Prague 9 (18%) and Prague 4 (16%). In contrast, in Prague 1 and 2, only three percent of all the apartments were sold. This is but a shortlist of steps through which Prague Airport pursues sustainability and green urbanism. The long-term development projects embedded in the airport’s agenda are to adhere to the principles of sustainability, too. Prague Airport has been actively reducing CO2 emissions for over ten years. Compared to 2009, it achieved a reduction in CO2 emissions of 76% last year and thus saved the equivalent of 41,000 tons of CO2. At the same time, together with other airports, airlines and aircraft manufacturers, the airport has committed itself to reduce the environmental impact of aviation in the pan-European Destination 2050 initiative and introduced a commitment to reach carbon neutrality on all flights across Europe and beyond by 2050. “Airlines are phasing out older aircraft and replacing them with new, much greener and more environmentally-friendly models. Signal Festival is celebrating Earth Day in style with a light installation in Holešovice. The 8th year of the Festival was canceled due to the pandemic and yet, the Signal Festival’s director Martin Posta has commented that also 2021 edition is not 100% guaranteed. “No one dares to assume what the situation will be like in autumn”, he stated. “That’s why we’ve prepared these smaller events for this year. We can’t wait to meet the festival-goers. The Czech cultural scene has had a hard time because of the pandemic, and people still miss art. We do have a lot of plans,” Posta said. “We have updated the work, which was originally created for the Italian Triennale Milano, with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague so that it can be exhibited in a public space on the occasion of Earth Day. Czechs mostly perceive Russia as a security threat to the Czech Republic. This follows from the poll released by the research agency Median for Czech Radio. The agency has recently conducted a survey in connection with the deterioration of diplomatic relations between the two countries. 1037 respondents over 18 years old took part in a canvass, which took place this week on Monday and Tuesday. On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 means no threat and 10 means a huge threat, they rated the risk Russia posed to the Czech Republic with an average of 6.4. Almost a fifth of those polled believed Russia posed a grave peril. 10 percent of interviewees, on the contrary, were convinced it did not constitute a threat at all. The former were primarily represented by people from large cities or ODS voters (Civil Democratic Party), whereas the latter were comprised of KSČM voters (Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia). All shops, markets and selected services will reopen on Monday, May 3, if Covid-19 numbers continue to fall, said the Minister of Trade and Industry Karel Havlíček (ANO). On Thursday afternoon, the Czech government discussed a plan to relax measures against coronavirus. “If the favorable trend continues, we will allow the reopening of the rest of shops, markets, and other services,” wrote Havlíček on Twitter. Some spas and also museums and galleries can also reopen if there is no rise in cases. He added that such changes will occur if the number of cases fell to below 100 per 100,000 inhabitants weekly. The Czech Republic on Thursday ordered more Russian diplomats to leave the country, further escalating a fierce tug-of-war between the two nations over the alleged involvement of Russian spies in a massive ammunition depot explosion in 2014. Foreign Minister Jakub Kulhanek said Russia won’t be allowed to have more diplomats in Prague than the Czechs currently have at their embassy in Moscow. All others have to leave by the end of May, he said. The announcement came after Russia expelled 20 Czech diplomats on Sunday in retaliation for the Czech government´s expulsion of 18 Russian diplomats it identified as spies from the GRU and the SVR, Russia´s military and foreign intelligence services. On April 19th, 2021, the almost twenty-hectare plain at Prague’s Dívčí hrady became the new home to Przewalski’s horses. The Prague Zoo staff transported the first four mares from the breeding station in Dolní Dobřejov. They will be joined by a stallion in due time. “The purpose of this project is not only to regenerate this historic site but also to use the wild horses to graze the grass, thus contributing to the return of the original communities of plants and animals,” said Miroslav Bobek, Prague Zoo’s director. “It is also important for us that Prague’s citizens will be able to see Przewalski’s horses at Dívčí hrady while we are rebuilding their stables and enclosures at the zoo.” The first inhabitants at Dívčí hrady are the mares Khamiina, Xicara, Lana and Gruhne (see below for more details). They were chosen so that they guaranteed the greatest possible genetic diversity for the future reproduction of this group of Przewalski’s horses. Czech general practitioners will receive the Johnson & Johnson vaccine against coronavirus on Thursday as the distributor on Wednesday assesses the authenticity of the jabs and prepares them for delivery. The company Avenier is in charge of the deliveries of the Johnson & Johnson and Moderna vaccines. The Health Ministry tasked it on Tuesday evening to start distributing the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. “The supplies into particular GPs’ surgeries across the Czech Republic are scheduled as of Thursday morning,” Nesrsta said. At present, these catchy technologies are used, for example, for non-traditional forms of employee training, but also to support communication and cooperation within companies or to improve the customer experience. Simultaneously, the expected market for virtual reality is referred to as a new wave of communication and is predicted to proliferate. In 2021, the value of the VR and AR (Augmented Reality) market is expected by analysts to reach $ 215 billion. France has become the first EU member state to begin testing a digital coronavirus travel certificate as part of a Europe-wide scheme that Brussels hopes will allow people to travel more freely within the bloc by the summer. The TousAntiCovid app, part of the country’s contact tracing program, has been upgraded to store negative Covid-19 test results on travelers’ mobile phones and is being trialed on flights to Corsica and overseas départements from this week. The app has so far been downloaded by nearly 15 million French citizens so far. When will it be ready for use? According to a French official, at first, the certificates will only be used for travel, but they “could eventually be adopted for public events such as concerts, festivals and trade fairs,” although not for bars and restaurants.
