A record number of festival venues, more than one hundred Pride events in Prague and the regions, five hours of online broadcasts daily, rainbow-lit buildings throughout the Czech Republic. The jubilee tenth edition of the Prague Pride festival will take place from 3 to 9 August and, for the first time in its history, will bring together LGBT+ people and others through the interactive online Pride Stream. Theme of the festival: Pride LIVE “Prague Pride connects us LIVE”: this is the main motto of this year’s campaign and the goal of the festival itself. “We wanted to emphasise the theme of interconnection, which is very important to us. We have to get to know each other as LGBT+ people because, for example, the fact that I am a lesbian does not mean that I understand trans people. However, we don’t want to stick only with LGBT+ people, but also communicate with the people around us. Knowing how its citizens experience temperature in the urban areas is at the heart of a new project in the Czech city of Plzeň. Finding out where citizens feel too hot or on the contrary – where they prefer to take cover from the high temperatures – this is the objective of the experienced temperature map of Plzeň (originally Pocitové teplotní mapy Plzně). In order to create its temperature map focusing on the experience of residents and visitors, Plzeň invites them to co-create it together. An anonymous questionnaire, containing three short parts is available on the website www.pocitovemapy.cz (in Czech only). Users of the online tool can simply indicate how they feel in terms of temperature and therefore create their own version of the map. To do this, they can pinpoint locations or entire areas in the Czech city where they do not feel comfortable. On the next step, they are invited to do the opposite – point the places where they do feel at ease in the summer. The Czech Republic reported 281 cases of the new coronavirus on Friday, the largest one-day increase since the end of June, bringing the country’s total to 15,081. More than three-fifths recovered from the infection. As of Saturday morning, a total of 369 people died, two on Friday, July 24. There are 142 people currently hospitalized, 20 of them in critical conditions. On Tuesday, July 21, Czech laboratories detected 206 cases, a day later 246. On Thursday, the increase slowed slightly to 235, On Friday it went up again to 280, the highest daily increase since June 28. There are several local outbreaks in the Czech Republic. The Karviná region with 63 cases, has the highest number of people infected in the last seven days per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by Frýdek-Místek region with 36 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Prague registered 38 new cases in the last 24 hours. The increase in recent days is due, among other things, to the outbreak in the Techtle Mechtle nightclub. In the next two weeks, temperatures in the Czech Republic will climb steadily. According to Czech meteorologists, Monday marks the start of a sunny period with the wind changing to east or south-east on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing dry and very hot weather from the continent. From July 27 to August 9 temperatures will be above average, rising up to 30 degrees Celsius. On Tuesday, daytime highs could reach up to 32 degrees Celsius. “We will also have hot nights then, it will be more difficult to sleep at night”, the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) stated on its website. “There could be a chance of thunderstorms on Thursday, but this is too early to say now.” However, from mid-August, temperatures should cool a little. “During the third and fourth weeks (August 10 to 23) the weekly average temperature will range around 24 degrees Celsius,” the institute said. Last summer was the hottest in 58 years, with average temperatures of 19.5 degrees Celsius, some 2.5 degrees above the norm for June through August. As of this Saturday at midnight, wearing a face-covering will be mandatory at indoor events with over 100 people and capping gatherings to 500 people.
