On the occasion of the opening of Runway Park, Czech Airlines has prepared a series of sightseeing flights over Prague at low altitude. The first flights will take place on Saturday, July 11 at 14:00 and on Sunday, July 12 at 10:00. In case of great interest, CSA will organize flights on other dates. Flights will be carried out by an ATR 72 turboprop aircraft with a capacity of 70 seats. The flight will last about 30-40 minutes. The plane will fly over Prague, Křívoklat, Točnik, Karlštejn, and Český Šternberk castles. The altitude will reach 800 meters. Passengers can choose a seat on board for free and register online on the flight 36 hours before departure. The ticket price is 1490 CZK, including all fees and taxes. PRAGUE (AP) — Tomas Kapler knew nothing about ventilators — he’s an online business consultant, not an engineer or a medical technician. But when he saw that shortages of the vital machines had imperiled critically ill COVID-19 patients in northern Italy, he was moved to action. “It was a disturbing feeling for me that because of a lack of equipment the doctors had to decide whether a person gets a chance to live,” Kapler said. “That seemed so horrific to me that it was an impulse to do something.” And so he did. “I just said to myself: ‘Can we simply make the ventilators?’” he said. Working around the clock, he brought together a team of 30 Czechs to develop a fully functional ventilator — Corovent. And they did it in a matter of days. Affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival unveiled a scaled-down program of movies on Friday with an opening ceremony in an empty auditorium and a star-free red carpet. The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival announced in April it was canceling its main events as the novel coronavirus shuttered cinemas and mass gatherings. Following the announcement from the Slovenian government, Latvia and Estonia introduced entry restrictions for Czech citizens. From today, July 3rd, Czech citizens must undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine upon arrival in Latvia. This safety measure cannot be replaced with a negative COVID-19 test. In Estonia, quarantine for Czechs will be introduced next week. Residents of Latvia who have bought tickets to travel to Sweden, Luxembourg, Portugal, Romania, Bulgaria, Great Britain and the Czech Republic will have to self-isolate upon returning to their country. The European Committee of Social Rights (ECSR) has found violations of the right to equal pay and the right to equal opportunities in the workplace in 14 out of 15 countries which apply the European Social Charter’s collective complaints procedure: Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal and Slovenia. Only Sweden was found to be compliant with the Charter. “The gender pay gap is unacceptable in modern societies, yet it continues to be one of the main obstacles to achieving real equality. European governments must urgently step up efforts to ensure equal opportunities in the workplace. And more countries should use the Council of Europe’s Social Charter as one means of reaching that goal,” said Marija Pejčinović Burić, Secretary General of the Council of Europe. Complaints to the ECSR, which monitors the implementation of the Charter, were lodged by the international NGO University Women of Europe (UWE). While the ECSR found that all 15 countries concerned had satisfactory legislation recognizing the right to equal pay for equal work, it found various violations – bar Sweden – primarily due to insufficient progress in reducing the gender pay gap, but in some cases also due to lack of pay transparency in the labour market, ineffective legal remedies and the insufficient powers and resources of national gender equality bodies.
