Two Dutch who assaulted a waiter in Prague in April, may face longer prison sentences. The Public Prosecutor in the Czech Republic is charging them with attempted murder, which means they can face up to 18 years in prison. The charges have been toughed up because medical reports give a better picture of the injuries the man suffered when he was set upon by the group. The two Dutch brothers were initially charged with inflicting serious bodily harm. The brothers were part of a group of seven Dutch arrested for assaulting the waiter in Prague on April 21st. Two, including a police officer from Amsterdam, were released shortly after their arrest. Three others were given suspended prison sentences and banned from entering the Czech Republic for five years. The men, who were on a stag weekend, reportedly attacked the waiter after he told them they could not drink their own alcohol on the café terrace. Due to some faults on the wiring, all 60 new air-conditioned buses from SOR Libchavy were shut down by the Prague Transport Company this weekend. “On the basis of the damage to the alternator buses in SOR NB 18 EURO VI Step C buses, the DPP decided to shut down the vehicle of this type for safety reasons,” DPP spokeswoman Aneta Řehková confirmed. According to Řehková, the defect was applied to the manufacturer. “Ensured immediate control of all these buses. As a result of the manufacturer’s statement, the vehicle was re-released on Monday. Seven pieces remain weaned until the defects discovered, which are dealt with by the manufacturer in the framework of the provided guarantees,” said spokesman Řehková. Prague Public Transit Company bought a total of 150 machines from SOR Libchavy for one billion crowns. These are some of the first buses in Prague that are equipped with full air-conditioning. However, due to the defects that have occurred, DPP will file a complaint with the manufacturer. New research has revealed the top 15 cities worldwide that are best for remote working and Prague is on top. Inspired by the top 15 cities listed in InterNation’s Expat City Ranking Report, Powwownow analysed the cost of living, average monthly salary, internet speed, price of coffee, and cost of public transport in different places across the world. Three Czech NATO soldiers were killed and one U.S. service member was injured Sunday morning during a suicide attack in Afghanistan, according to multiple reports. The Czech military has confirmed that the three killed were its service members. Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš took to Twitter to remember the fallen soldiers as “heroes,” per the BBC. “Their sacrifice will endure in both our hearts and history, and further strengthen our resolve,” U.S. Army Gen. John Nicholson, Resolute Support and U.S. Forces-Afghanistan commander, added in a written statement. Local officials said the blast happened in the Khalazai area of Charikar, capital of Parwan province. Wahida Shahkar, spokeswoman for the Parwan provincial governor, said the suicide bomber targeted foreign forces who were on a routine foot patrol. Many expats can participate in the municipal elections, scheduled for Oct. 5–6. The local elections are not only in Prague but across the country and the same rules apply. European Union citizens with residence permits can vote, and they can also run for some local offices including City Council, but not the mayor. In practice, though, running for office is a bit complicated as a signed petition is needed to get on the ballot. A 41-year-old tourist from the Czech Republic was killed by a shark on Friday 3 August, reports local Czech media. The Czech man who was swimming off the coast of Marsa Alam was attacked and killed by a shark. The man was reportedly holidaying in the popular Red Sea resort town with his wife and children through a travel agency identified as Exim Tours. A spokesperson for Exim Tours said that the attack was unusual and that the deceased’s family hopes to return to the Czech Republic as soon as possible. Reports of the attack first emerged on Friday evening, when a part of an unidentified body was located off the coast of a resort in Marsa Alam. It remains unclear where the man was staying and whether he was swimming alone. According to the Czech Republic’s Foreign Ministry, local Egyptian police are investigating the attack. This year’s Prague Pride will put the focus on the LGBTI family. The organizers aim to raise awareness of LGBTI family members to challenge the tendency to label them as just gay or lesbian. “In the campaign, we want to mainly focus on how often homosexual children are considered black sheep of the family,” festival director Hana Kulhánková said. “We would like gays, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people to be perceived as comprehensive personalities who are something more than the gay or lesbian labels,” she added. The Pride festival will take place from 6-12 August, with over 100 LGBTI-themed events including film screenings, theatre performances, seminars, and debates. As always, there will be a march through the city center on 11 August. Awareness of LGBTI rights in the Czech Republic has grown over the last few years, but campaigners are still working to push through progressive legislation. On Sunday, August 12th of this year, the Prague City Transport Company will celebrate the 40th-anniversary commencement of the Metro A line. The first ride will take place at 11:45 from Dejvická station to Lenin Station and then towards Namesti Miru station. This route will commemorate the first section of Line A, which has been in operation since August 12, 1978. The last exit of the set is planned at 15.10 from Dejvická station in the direction of Náměstí Míru. Following the tradition, all train runs will be accompanied by station radio reports and train drivers will wear uniforms accordingly to each period era. Lucie Lukášková (21) managed to get married just three hours after a complicated delivery. She delivered the baby with the help of epidural, a thin tube that brings a pain-relieving cloth to the spine. With a high risk of premature birth, she had to be transported from Neratovice to the Prague hospital at St. Apollinaire. Filip Lukášek (28) and Lucie wanted to get married before the baby was born, mainly due to matrix and paperworks.
