After nearly two decades, direct air service between Prague and Cork is making a comeback. Starting October 23, 2025, Aer Lingus will launch a new twice-weekly route connecting Václav Havel Airport Prague with Ireland’s second-largest city. Flights will run every Thursday and Sunday, operated by an Airbus A320 with 174 seats. The announcement was made by Jiří Hannich, spokesperson for Prague Airport. The last time passengers could fly directly between Prague and Cork was in 2008. “This is Aer Lingus’s second regular route from Prague,” said Hannich. “The airline already connects Prague to Dublin daily during the summer season.” This Prague–Dublin connection will shift to six flights a week during the winter timetable. A major reconstruction project will shut down Prague’s Flora metro station for ten months starting in the first quarter of 2026, as part of a long-awaited overhaul worth 1.29 billion CZK. The work will include the installation of elevators, replacement of escalators, and a full renovation of both public and non-public station areas. The reconstruction will begin in October 2025, but the station will remain open during the initial phase. “We’d like to launch the work in October, with minimal restrictions at first. Full closure will follow in early 2026 for roughly ten months,” said Daniel Veverka, Head of DPP’s Metro Investment Department. Flora station will become Prague’s 49th barrier-free metro stop thanks to the construction of two new elevators. The internationally renowned author will present the novel in the Czech capital this September, although the exact date and venue remain undisclosed. What’s already confirmed, however, is that Netflix has secured the rights to adapt the book into a series, with Brown and showrunner Carlton Cuse (Lost, Jack Ryan) attached to the project. The novel, to be published simultaneously in English and Czech on September 9, follows the familiar protagonist, Professor Robert Langdon, who arrives in Prague for a lecture by noetics researcher Katherine Solomon. From July 26 to August 1, Prague’s Masaryk Station will be completely closed to allow the Railway Administration to activate new signaling systems as part of ongoing modernization efforts. During this time, trains will be rerouted to other stations, primarily the Main Station (Praha hlavní nádraží). Travelers planning trips in late July should check updated schedules carefully, as no trains will serve Masaryk Station throughout the week. “The Railway Administration is continuing its modernization work, and the activation of the new signaling equipment will begin on Saturday, July 26. Train service is expected to resume on the evening of August 1, alongside the reopening of the upgraded section between Bubny and Výstaviště,” said Nela Eberl Friebová, the Railway Administration’s spokesperson. Meanwhile, extensive construction is underway at Masaryk Station itself. A newly renovated arch under the Negrelli Viaduct in Prague’s Karlín district has found a unique purpose this summer: a temporary library branch specializing in comics, fantasy, sci-fi, and board games. As part of a pilot program, the arch will operate as a branch of the Municipal Library of Prague for two years. This phase will test both its economic viability and public usage before similar renovations begin on other arches along the viaduct. The Czech Republic has signed a memorandum of understanding with the United Kingdom on cooperation in nuclear energy, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala said yesterday after a meeting with his British counterpart Keir Starmer in London. Between January and June 2025, a total of 45,959 people registered a trade license in Czechia. The number of registered entrepreneurs (professionals and small business owners) in the country reached 2,007,596, the highest since 2022. The figures were released by Dun & Bradstreet, a firm that tracks business activity across Europe. Foreign nationals continue to drive part of this growth. According to the data, Ukrainian citizens made up 14% of new registrations, while Slovaks accounted for 3%. “In 2023, 80,787 people started businesses. That figure rose to 91,494 in 2024 — the highest in over a decade. This year’s numbers show that interest in entrepreneurship remains high,” said Kateřina Klosová, Chair of the Board at Dun & Bradstreet Czech Republic. Klosová noted that the increase in self-employed activity is economically positive, especially in sectors where demand is tied to local services.
