I wasn’t able to tour for my first album back then, so this tour makes it extra special for me. I can’t believe it’s been 25 years since ‘Not That Kind’ was released and we’re going to celebrate in typical Anastacia style. It’s going to be a huge anniversary party. I’m really looking forward to seeing you all there,” Anastacia said about her upcoming tour. Anastacia started her career in 1999 and was named the “world’s best-selling new female pop artist” just two years later. She is known for hits like “I’m Outta Love,” “Paid My Dues,” and “Left...
This June was one of the hottest months ever recorded at Prague’s Klementinum, the oldest weather station in the Czech Republic. The average temperature for the month was 21.2 degrees Celsius. According to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ), only six Junes have been warmer since the station began operating in 1775, with just one occurring before the year 2000. Across the country, June was exceptionally warm, with a national average temperature of 17.9 degrees Celsius, based on preliminary data. “June 2024, with an average monthly temperature of 21.2 degrees Celsius, was significantly above normal in Prague-Klementinum, ranking seventh to ninth among all Junes since 1775,” meteorologists reported. The deviation from the 1991-2020 average was 1.6 degrees higher, and the long-term average from 1775 to 2014 was exceeded by 3.1 degrees this June. The warmest June in the past 250 years at Klementinum was in 2019, with an average temperature of 24.5 degrees Celsius. This was followed by June 1811 at 22.5 degrees, and recent years like 2003, 2021, 2022, and 2017. “Of the six Junes warmer than this year, only one occurred before 2000,” meteorologists noted. In contrast, the coldest June since 1775 was recorded in 1923, with an average...
On Tuesday, July 2, the Prague Transport Company introduced two new lifts at the Jiřího z Poděbrad metro station. Originally opened in 1980, the station did not have lifts, requiring new shafts to be constructed from scratch. This project, lasting almost three years, cost CZK 500 million. Jiřího z Poděbrad is now the 47th barrier-free station in the Prague metro system, which has a total of 61 stations. The lifts are placed in different parts of the station, with a 40-meter passage between them. Each lift can accommodate 21 passengers or up to 1,600 kg. The shafts of the first pair of lifts are 16.9 meters high, while the second pair reaches 28.1 meters. The travel time for the first pair of lifts is 11 seconds, and for the second pair, it is 14 seconds. After a major reconstruction, Jiřího z Poděbrad station reopened on November 2, 2023, with the installation of the lifts marking the completion of the project. The renovation of Jiřího z Poděbrad square Work on transforming Prague’s Jiřího z Poděbrad square started in February this year. The reconstruction which aims to create an open green space where people can sit on the grass, on benches under...
The summer heat in Prague is intensifying, making public transportation trips quite challenging. For those who struggle with hot and stuffy conditions, the city’s transportation authorities have provided a guide to identify trams equipped with air conditioning. All Škoda 15T4 trams come with onboard climate control. These trams are easily recognized by the yellow plastic inserts in the front section. Currently, 127 of these air-conditioned trams operate on Prague’s streets, and air conditioning is a standard feature. However, the older Škoda 15T trams only have air conditioning in the driver’s cabin, leaving the passenger compartment without this comfort. These trams have a front section designed in gray and red and do not include the yellow inserts. However, there is an exception – two gray Škoda 15T trams do have air conditioning in the passenger compartment (they were installed as an experiment). These trams can be identified by their registration numbers 9243 and 9285, which are displayed on the front section of the tram. Another way to find out in advance when a tram or bus with air conditioning will arrive at a stop is by using the official online map of the Prague public transportation system, which shows the real-time...
Prague Airport will be the first airport worldwide to feature a Poesiomat for its passengers. Reminiscent of a submarine periscope, this unique installation activates when you turn its crank, sharing poems, songs, and stories about Czech cultural icons. Poesiomats have been enriching public spaces since 2015, thanks to the Piána na ulici association led by café owner Ondřej Kobza. Starting July 2, travelers at Prague’s Airport can enjoy this new experience. “Airports are gateways to and from the country and modern squares where people have time to stop and reflect. We thought it would be wonderful if people could spend this time listening to a Dvořák symphony or a Seifert poem,” explains Kobza, the project’s creator. The Poesiomat will feature 20 recordings, introducing passengers to notable Czech figures from various fields, including culture, politics, and sports. Visitors will learn about luminaries like Václav Havel, Milan Kundera, Karel Čapek, and Eliška Junková. “English will be the primary language, but the Poesiomat will also recite or sing in French, German, and Spanish. Our goal is to familiarize foreign visitors with Czech culture,” adds Kobza. The poetry machines are made of steel and are about 180 cm tall, consisting of three assembled parts....
After more than thirteen years of activity, the British band Royal Blood will finally visit the Czech Republic to play their first solo concert! It will take place on July 11, 2024, in Ledárny Braník. The duo will bring to Prague not only their latest album, Back To The Water Below, which was very well received by critics, but also a cross-section of their entire work. The band from Worthing, UK was formed in 2011 and almost from the very beginning was based on the long-term friendship of musicians Mike Kerr (vocals, bass guitar) and Ben Thatcher (drums). After the release of their debut album, the until then unknown project reached the top of the British charts almost overnight, played on the stages of festivals such as Glastonbury or Rock Werchter and, last but not least, received a nomination for the prestigious Mercury Prize and the Brit Awards for Best British Band of 2015. Their sound can be compared to bands like The White Stripes, The Black Keys or Muse, with whom they played the Royal Blood tour last year. The combination of bass guitar and drums is originally emphasized by Kerr’s typical style, where his bass guitar sounds like...

The tourist season is in full swing again in the Czech Republic. Last year, over 22 million tourists visited the country, and even more are expected this year. Analysts estimate that over 1.5 million tourists will travel to Prague this July and August, significantly more than during the same period last year. The Czech Republic attracts tourists with its rich history, picturesque cities, natural beauty, and affordable beer. Visitors from Germany, Poland, the UK, and Italy are among the most frequent. Prague remains the top destination, with about six million tourists visiting last year. This is a significant increase compared to 2020, the start of the COVID-19 pandemic when the number was much lower. Other cities like Český Krumlov and natural attractions such as the Prachovské skály also draw foreign visitors. “The summer season will be strong, with a substantial number of foreigners coming,” says František Reismüller, director of CzechTourism. While the Czech Republic’s economy is not as dependent on tourism as some southern European countries, it still plays a crucial role. “In 2022, tourism accounted for 2.22 percent of the Czech economy,” says economist Petr Bartoň. “Tourism employs 220,000 people in the Czech Republic. It’s essential for the economy...

The construction of a new tram line at Wenceslas Square has begun, marking a significant milestone after nearly two decades of planning. This new line aims to alleviate traffic congestion in Prague’s center, with future plans to extend the line to the main railway station. This three-year project, led by Eurovia, will cost CZK 1.24 billion. It represents one of the largest investments in Prague’s current infrastructure projects. Eighteen city representatives and stakeholders attended the ceremony to mark the commencement of this project. The new tram line will run along the edges of the square, converging at the monument and crossing the main thoroughfare. This will allow trams to travel from Jindřišská or Vodičkova Street to Vinohrady for the first time. Construction is set to begin on Saturday, June 29, with the installation of switches and branches from the existing line on Vodičkova and Jindřišská Streets. Trams will not run through the square between Vodičková and Jindřišská from this date until September 30. According to DPP, the new line will reduce traffic congestion on Ječná Street and at the Karlovo náměstí intersection, improve emergency diversion routes, and increase the speed and regularity of tram services across Prague. Work will also start...

Starting July 1, the Prague City Hall will shorten the activation time for tickets purchased through the PID Lítačka app from two minutes to just one. This change addresses frequent complaints from people who get fined by public transport inspectors while waiting for their tickets to be validated. Additionally, the city has extended fare discounts for people in material need until the end of June next year. “The long activation period was inconvenient, especially when someone was in a hurry. One minute will allow you to buy a ticket before the vehicle arrives and still provide sufficient protection against abuse,” explained Zdeněk Hřib, Deputy Mayor for Transport. The previous two-minute limit was primarily a protective measure to prevent abuse of the payment system in public transport and trains just before inspections. However, a one-minute activation period is more common in other Czech cities, such as Ostrava, noted Prague City Hall spokesman Vít Hofman. This shortened activation period applies not only to the PID Lítačka app but also to the partner app DoKapsy from ČSOB. The activation period for tickets purchased via SMS remains unchanged, typically between one and two minutes, due to different technological requirements. “There is no change for...
