Prague Comes Alive With Barrel Organ Music Festival

The beginning of August traditionally belongs to the flute players in Prague. This year, the National Museum has already prepared the 12th edition of the Flašinet žije! festival, which will take place on Saturday, August 16. Street artists from various parts of the Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and France will enliven the center of Prague with three concerts of different genres. The festival will start at 10.00 with a concert in the church of St. Nicholas on Old Town Square, where the Baroque church will resound with popular compositions of classical music. At 3 pm, improvised performances by flutists will be heard on Na Kampe Square near Charles Bridge. Barrel organ players will play their machines and passers-by will be able to see them from all sides. A barrel organ is a mechanical musical instrument made of bellows and one or more ranks of pipes, all typically housed in a whimsical, wooden case. 1968 Invasion of Czechoslovakia Remembered at NeverMore Festival

On the 57th anniversary of the 1968 invasion of Czechoslovakia by Warsaw Pact troops, Prague’s Výstaviště will once again host NeverMore 68, a day-long festival dedicated to freedom, truth, and historical memory. The event, held on August 21, invites the public to explore how governments, foreign media, and institutions on both sides of the Iron Curtain responded to one of the darkest moments in Czechoslovak history. This year’s edition places a strong focus on the United Kingdom, where a large Czechoslovak exile community lived at the time. Sour Beer Festival Returns to Prague With Expanded “XXL” Edition

From August 20 to 24, the Sour Beer Festival returns to Permanent Pragovka in Prague’s Vysočany district. The organizers are launching a new format under the name SourFest XXL, promising a wider range of styles and brewers. The festival will feature special batches brewed exclusively for the event, as well as a curated selection of sours from across Europe. Prague’s Coworking Market Grows by 9% Year-on-Year

Coworking spaces in Prague have seen sharp expansion, with total shared office space now exceeding 144,000 square meters – a 9% increase year-on-year, according to a new analysis by Knight Frank. What was once a marginal offering on the office market now makes up nearly 4% of the city’s modern office space, and the trend is far from slowing. “Coworking offers a hybrid solution that fits post-pandemic work habits,” says Lenka Šindelářová, Head of Research & Consultancy at Knight Frank. “It brings together flexibility, community, and professional facilities. Tram Island at Staroměstská Finally Expanded, Bike Lane Now in Place

After years of debate and delays, one of Prague’s busiest tram stops has finally been upgraded. The Staroměstská tram stop now features a wider tram island and a dedicated cyclist lane, offering safer and more comfortable conditions for the 13,000 daily passengers who use the stop. The project, carried out by the Prague Transport Company (DPP), eliminated one of the car lanes to create space. Now, only a single lane remains for motor vehicles, while the second, narrower one is reserved for cyclists. The boarding island, which was previously just 1.5 meters wide, has been expanded to reduce overcrowding and improve safety for tram passengers. Prague Moves Forward With Plan to Name Square After Karel Gott

Two Women Hospitalized in Prague After Eating THC Gummy Bears

Two young foreign women were rushed to intensive care Saturday evening after collapsing on Wenceslas Square. Authorities believe the cause may have been THC-laced gummy bears, a form of edible cannabis. According to emergency responders, passersby found the two women, both in their twenties, unconscious near the lower part of the square shortly after 9 p.m. Emergency services were called immediately. “Two rescue units and two medical teams were dispatched to the scene.
