In Prague, there will be a ban on lighting fires or smoking in forests and parks and other places where there is an increased risk of fires from noon on Tuesday the 19th until Sunday at 4:30 p.m. Prague municipality spokesman Vít Hofman announced this to ČTK today. The announcement came after the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) as warned against fires. The ban will apply to forests within 50 meters of their edge, parks and forest parks, places with stored hay or straw also within a radius of 50 meters, or fields where there is a risk of a flare-up of cultivated crops. In addition to smoking, with the exception of e-cigarettes, people will also not be allowed to use pyrotechnic products, launch flying lanterns and throw burning or smoldering objects. After postponing their 2020 tour to 2021, and then once more to this summer, Pearl Jam has finally hit the road on their most recent European tour. On July 22nd, they are coming to Prague’s O2 Arena as they wrap up their latest tour. They will be supported by the band White Reaper. Pearl Jam, started in Seattle, Washington, will perform an extensive set list of their biggest hits from their over a 30-year run. The set includes a number of songs off of their most recent release, Gigaton. It is their eleventh studio album and was released in March of 2020, just as concerts were shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It has topped several charts in Europe. This long-awaited tour was originally set to accompany said release. The cable car between Podbaba and Bohnice seems to be one step closer to reality. The transport company announced an international competition in which 23 applicants from nine European countries applied. Now the expert jury has selected five finalists, including four international firms and one Czech representative. The winner of the competition should be announced during September. The connection between Bohnice and Prague 6 is currently rather challenging. Even though the districts are about 3.5 kilometers apart as the crow flies, getting physically from one district to another is a half-day trip at best. It involves multiple transfers–the cable car will help immensely. A cable car will offer a simpler connection. Even if a tram connection is also planned in the future, these plans are very distant. The Prague 1 district is the most flooded with shared scooters in the entire city, on which tourists also endanger pedestrians on the sidewalks. The exhibit, featuring damaged tanks, trucks and other equipment used by Russian forces following the Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine, underlines how Kyiv has sought to whip up support for their fight and request for more assistance and weapons from western nations. “Be brave like Ukraine. The area of Revoluční, náměstí Republiky, Na Příkopě, 28. října and Národní streets in the center of Prague is to become a uniform boulevard and shopping street. Prague 3 City Hall handed over Žižkov’s Tachovské náměstí for revitalization, which will begin in a month. Their names are Poly, Flora, Blesk and Šemík, and they are just a few of the nineteen horses at Letná’s newly renovated carousel, which just yesterday started turning again for the first time in almost two decades. The day of the launch of the historical carousel was not chosen randomly. It was on July 11, 1894, that it was installed in Prague 7. The carousel itself is even older. In 1892, it had already been established in Vinohrady. The monument was bought in 2004 by the National Technical Museum because it is one of the oldest surviving floor carousels in Europe. At that time, however, the carousel was in a state of disrepair, despite having been declared a monument in 1991. “For the entire time that the carousel has been under the management of the museum, we have struggled with a lack of funds and many technical problems caused by the fact that it is a European unique model, which no companies knew how to restore,” said the General Director of the National Technical Museum, Karel Ksander.
