Last year, visitors to Prague could take a ride on historical trams on line number 41, and since July also on circular lines 42 and 43 for the first time. During the entire period of operation, they were used by a total of almost 40,000 passengers, two-thirds of which were domestic tourists. Historical tram line 42, which is jointly operated by the municipal companies Dopravní podnik hl.m. Prague (DPP) and Prague City Tourism (PCT) will again take to the streets of Prague on Saturday, March 26, 2022. From the same date, the historical line 41 will also be in operation. Prague’s mayor, Zdeněk Hřib, said that the situation in Prague with regard to refugees had become serious.
Prague has been named the most “culturally enriched” city in Europe. Amsterdam, came second, while Dublin took third place. The study completed by Uswitch looked at how many museums, theatres, landmarks and cultural tours each city had per 100,000 residents. Each city was then given a score ranked out of 10. Prague received a score of 9.85. “Renowned for its beauty and culture, Prague is in the first place of the most cultured cities in Europe. A stroll through the city can take you through one of the 200 historical parks on offer and gardens dotted throughout the city. There are also plenty of landmarks to stop by, such as the iconic Dancing House, with almost 15 per 100,000 people,” the results of the study found. “If you want to take in the breathtaking views of the city as well as the calm and fresh atmosphere, opt for one of the cultural tours (nearly three on offer per 100,000 in the city).” The capital beat popular European tourist destinations Rome, Copenhagen, Munich, Budapest, London, Berlin, Milan and Vienna.
For many decades of the long 19th century, the renowned department store at Celetná Street No. 15 offered Prague residents and visitors a wide selection of luxurious goods. Visitors will have a unique opportunity to enjoy the great beer specials of the Czech brewers. Up to 30 Czech breweries with at least one sample of their production, of any beer style. The 4th annual PBFest – Prague Beer Festival will take place on the 1st and 2nd of April at the Prague Market in Holešovice, Building 13. “This year we are also welcoming guest breweries from Belgium, Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Hungary and Estonia. There will be over 150 beers on tap and well as a wide selection of beer specials in bottles and cans available for purchase to take away,” says the organizers. The festival currency is tokens, which will be available for purchase at the festival. The entry fee includes a 0.3l souvenir tasting glass. “We decided to keep tickets at 2019 prices. It will become fully accessible to the public this summer. After three years of conducting major repairs, Prague is close to completing the renovation of the Baroque Clam-Gallas Palace. According to the Czech capital’s website, the palace once housed the highest social classes of the Viennese court, with composers like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven reportedly having performed there. Councillor for Culture and Tourism Hana Třeštíková commented on the significance of this, sharing that the palace and Mozart’s legacy would strengthen Prague’s position ‘on the culture map of Europe’. Taking this further, Třeštíková stated: “We [Prague] definitely have something to offer in the field of classical music. Czech history is proud of names such as Josef Mysliveček, Bedřich Smetana, Leoš Janáček and many others. We will be very happy if we manage to turn this rich potential into a concrete result.” According to the capital, the renovation work should cost around CZK 460 million (over EUR 18 million) and be completed by this summer. The Prague Transport Company (DPP) can officially start building the metro line D from Pankrác to Písnice. The Ministry of Transport rejected an appeal by opponents of the construction against the granting of the construction permit. The decision can no longer be appealed. “After the 15-day period for the delivery of the public notice, there is nothing to prevent the construction from starting,” said Deputy Mayor Adam Scheinherr (Praha Sobae). The construction could start in April this year. The first part of the route will be from Pankrác to Nové Dvory. The cost should be about CZK 52.09 billion, taking into account the increasing inflation. After that, it will continue to Pisnice Depot and in the future, a section from Pankrác to Namesti Míru Square. Until 30 March, visitors to Arkády Pankrác shopping centre will have the opportunity to see a unique exhibition of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. The exhibition entitled Harley-Davidson, a legend is coming! includes nearly four dozen motorcycles of the brand from 1918 to 2022, which are located all over the shopping centre. The Municipality of Prague is looking for volunteers to help Ukrainian refugees in the registration center in Vyšehrad. People are required to have basic Czech language skills, as well as Russian or Ukrainian. They will help refugees fill in different forms and, if necessary, provide simple interpretation while communicating with Czech officials. To become a volunteer you need to fill out a form at this link and wait for the call of a coordinator. The amount of daily work can choose by the volunteer. The mayor of Prague, Zdeněk Hřib, said on Monday afternoon that the Congress Centre does not have enough staff to deal with the influx of people, and therefore, will not accept any more arrivals until March 9. Mr. Hřib also said he would contact the army for help. Minister Rakušan said on Sunday that there were around 100,000 Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic.
