Alfred Nikodém Memorial Will Take Place on December 26

The 74th edition of the oldest Czech winter swimming contest will be held near the National Theatre, between Slavonic Island and Střelecký Island. The event will start at 11 a.m. on December 26 and will be attended by hardy men and women. In addition to the antigen test, organizers will measure the temperature of all participants. At the entrance to Slovanský ostrov, everyone is obliged to wear face masks. Spectators will not have access to Slovanský ostrov, while organizers will ensure they do not gather on the adjacent embankments, bridges and neighboring islands. The awards ceremony will take place in the Small Hall of the Žofín Palace. The memorial is called after Alfred Nikodém, who was a goldsmith in Prague and a proponent of Spartan lifestyle. Prague Mayor Wants to Celebrate New Year’s Eve With a Drone Show

There will be no New Year’s light show with fireworks in 2020 in Prague, Mayor Zdeněk Hřib announced in August. This is the result of the Czech capital’s commitment to protecting animals and the environment from noise and pollution. Moreover, the City of Prague has banned the use of pyrotechnics in selected places (such as parks, protected areas, around watercourses, islands, dams, or dikes, at the Prague Zoo) on New Year’s Eve (December 31) and New Year’s celebrations on January 1st. “New Year’s Eve celebrations will be different than in previous years. Prague Will NOT Increase the Cost of Annual Public Transit Pass. For Now.

Deputy Minister for Transport Adam Scheinherr (Praha sobě) confirmed that the annual pass for Prague City Transport will not raise in the near future. “However, Prague city cannot avoid an increase in price. We don’t know when this will happen,” he said at yesterday’s meeting of the City Council. This summer, Scheinherr suggested increasing the price of the annual pass by CZK 1 per day, ie by CZK 365 per year. “In this way, passengers can cover the higher costs of the transport company in the following years. New Apartments in Prague Have Seen 80% Price Increase in the Past Six Years
