Electric Cargo Bikes Hit the City Center as Prague Opens its First Cycle Depot for Deliveries

Depot.Bike, Prague’s first cycle depot, was ceremoniously opened in November. The depot, located in the Florenc section of the city, will facilitate the delivery of goods throughout the city center by cargo bike, and forms part of the city’s plan to ease the congestion of public space, reduce traffic, and improve the quality of life for city residents. At the opening ceremonies, Adam Scheinherr, Deputy Mayor for Transport, noted: “At the cycle depot on Těšnov Street near Florenc, goods will be transferred from trucks to special e-bikes, and then taken by couriers directly to customers. We’ve planned everything to be just in time for Christmas. The location is easily accessible because it is right under Prague’s arterial road. The depot is large and well-connected to the city center. Experience from abroad speaks clearly. Up to 32 percent of deliveries in city centers can be made using cargo bikes. And that is no small number. Police Searching for 6 Year-Old Boy. He Got Lost on Saturday Morning at Hlavní Nádraží in Prague

Prague police are asking for the public’s help in finding six-year-old František Srna. He was on a scout expedition to Čerčany and was last seen Saturday morning on the Hlavní Nádraží train platform. He lives in Chodov, Prague 11 and was dressed in a blue jacket and green hat. “We received the information around half-past nine at the local department at Hlavní Nádraží. František was last seen on the way to the railway platform,” said police spokesman Jan Rybanský. Anyone with any information on František’s whereabouts is asked to contact emergency number 158. Ice Skating Rink Opening in Prague’s Letna for the 2020/21 Season

Ice skating has a tradition in the Czech Republic and nowadays it’s a very popular social outdoor activity among locals. Prague Hotel Launches Lawsuit as Insurer States Covid Isn’t Valid Claim

A hotel in central Prague is preparing to battle insurance company Generali Česká pojišťovna who has refused to honour their insurance policy. Well-known real estate developer Jean-Francois Ott signed a new comprehensive insurance for Hotel Smetana back in November 2019 including a separate policy covering business interruption, which he assumed, back in March, when the government closed all hotels to halt the spread of coronavirus would be covered by the insurance company. Now, Generali is claiming that Covid is not a valid insurance claim. In addition to refusing to pay the money for the claim, the insurer also terminated the hotel’s half-year-old contract. Generali offered them a new one for the same price however with less coverage, but only on the condition that the clauses from the policy, the hotel claimed,  will be removed in the new policy. The feud is now likely to be settled in court. Hotel manager Stefan Radstrom said that one of the reasons they chose Generali was that it was the only one that accepted interruption insurance in the contract, which covers risks not caused by the hotel management. The Controversial Exhibition ‘Českoland’ Is Reopening

The exhibition Českoland, invented by graphic designer and satirist Tomáš Břínek, also known under pseudonym TMBK, is reopening in the underground of Hotel Pyramida in Prague after a 2-month break. Visitors can expect to see Andrej Babiš in a jail cell, listen to fortunes told by oracle Jolanda, or experience the iconic “bába pod kořenem” incident first-hand. The exhibition will be open to the public until the 31st of December.  Preparation for the exhibition began in winter of last year when the internet’s comedy legend who goes by the pseudonym TMBK launched a fundraiser for its realization on Hithit.cz site, where he managed to raise almost 1.5 million CZK.  The motto of the fundraising is “The more we raise, the nicer a prison we build for Andrej.” Not only did they fulfill every last word of this promise, but they also managed to create a number of other bizarre installations of the widest variety. “Look out for statues, reliefs, moving figurines, collages, videos, holograms, and naive silliness. Politico Ranks Prague Mayor Hřib Among Most Influential People in Europe

On Monday, 7 December 2020, the mayor of Prague Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates) will take part in POLITICO 28, an annual ranking of the people with the greatest impact on politics and policy-making in Europe. Several Bars and Restaurants Violated Closing Time on Friday

Czech police found several restaurants and bars that were open after 22:00 this Friday, violating the government order. Health Minister Jan Blatny labeled this behavior as “unacceptable” and “irresponsible”. According to Blatny, “the Czech Republic is on the border between the third and fourth PES level, and if the situation worsens, there is a risk that restaurants and bars will have to close again”. “The exact number of violations, as well as how exactly the measures were violated, will become known only after the weekend,” said a spokeswoman for the Czech police, Kateryna Rendlova. “Unfortunately, some restaurant and club operators are very irresponsible. In many cases, police officers found catering establishments that were open after 22:00.
