Prague Foresters Launch Autumn Tree Planting

Similarly to the spring months, when Prague foresters carried out planned tree planting during the state of emergency declared by the Czech government, they are launching the autumn planting in various areas of the city under the same conditions. Spring and autumn are the seasons guaranteeing optimal climatic conditions for planting, foresters in Prague can thus plan to plant 130 thousand new trees before winter 2020 begins. Thanks to their intense seasonal activities the foresters planted over 107 thousand tree plants this spring. Plan of the Forests of the Capital City of Prague, a municipal company, includes planting new beeches, oaks, firs, pines, and larches to replace ceased forests, or to give life to their new projects. Planting new trees is essential for maintaining the quality of existing wooded areas, for reinforcing the land surrounding bodies of water, or for preventing the residential areas from noise generated by traffic. Prague City plans to invest several millions of crowns in greening the city over a period of eight years. The target number was set to a million of new trees. Ondřej Pala, Speaker at Anti-Lockdown Protest: ‘All Clashes Were Staged by Police”

On October 18th, people gathered in Old Town Square without face coverings to protest the latest Coronavirus restrictions put in place in Prague. Consisting of football and hockey fans, members of the ‘Movement of civil dissatisfaction’ and citizens, the crowd commended the decisions of Roman Prymula to close bars and restaurants, ban sports games and make mask-wearing mandatory. After the demonstration came to an end, violence broke out between protestors and police. Bottles and bins were thrown, while police aimed tear gas at demonstrators According to the police, around 20 people were injured in the clashes. Of the 144 people who were arrested on the day, 14 people will are accused of criminal charges. According to the press secretary of police Eva Kropacova, two people will face up to six years in jail.  Ondřej Pala watched it all play out. Prague Takes Important Step Towards Construction of New Vltava Philharmonic Concert Hall

Prague has taken yet another important step towards the construction of the new Vltava Philharmonic Concert Hall in the Bubny–Zátory section of Holešovice, with the selection of a consortium led by world-renowned Henning Larsen Architects to complete a feasibility analysis. The results will be used as one of several important supporting documents as the city decides whether to continue with the project. If it moves forward, the project is intended to kick off the gradual revitalization of this neglected area of Holešovice. “Modern architecture in Prague cannot end with the Dancing House. We don’t want to turn Prague into an open-air museum. I would love to see more buildings with global impact built here, and I believe that the new concert hall could be one of those buildings,” says Zdeněk Hřib, Mayor of Prague. “The prestige and expertise of the Henning Larsen-led consortium from similar projects around the world is a guarantee of quality for the feasibility study, which will guide future decisions about this project. Official: Prague’s Old Town Christmas Market Cancelled

Svařák (mulled wine) and a cozy atmosphere at the foot of picturesque buildings normally attract thousands to the Christmas market at Prague’s Old Town every year. But due to the risk posed by growing coronavirus cases, there will be no enticing stalls to be seen in 2020, as iDNES reports. “Given the epidemiological situation, it would probably be very inappropriate to hold Christmas markets,” said Prague councilor Jan Chabr. The atmosphere in the Old Town Square will be ensured by the traditional large spruce and Christmas decorations. “If the epidemiological situation allows it, we are ready to add some small stalls,” added Chabr. Mental Health Support Groups in Prague

With more than 231,000 cases, the Czech Republic has become the fastest-growing epicenter of COVID-19 cases in Europe.  Uncertainty and unpredictability about the current situation have manifested itself in both Czechs and in some specific ways, foreigners living in the Czech Republic. Anxiety, isolation, and social deprivation have become daily struggles for a growing number of people. Foreigners, being apart from their families and loved ones, especially those that recently moved abroad, may be experiencing the pandemic in a more sensitive way. Long waiting lines at public hospitals for adequate psychological care and support or private expensive psychologists/psychotherapists have put a lot of people in a poor position to receive help on time.  Because of the pandemic, the team at Prague Integration Courses has mobilized resources and started to offer mental health support groups for foreigners living in the Czech Republic. The new statue of Empress Maria Theresa was unveiled today, October 20, the day when she assumed the Austrian throne in 1740. Prague Plans for Tourists’ Return With Visitors Pass

In an effort to boost tourism following the devastation of the coronavirus pandemic, visitors will be given ways to explore outside of the hotspots while traders will work towards earning a sustainable business marker.
