Quiet, Modern, Efficient: New Škoda Trams Ready to Hit the Streets

Prague’s long-awaited Škoda ForCity Plus 52T trams have successfully completed all tests and obtained type approval, clearing the way for their official launch on the city’s streets. The new low-floor trams, produced by Škoda Group, underwent a rigorous homologation process that included 20,000 kilometers of test runs without passengers and another 20,000 kilometers in passenger service simulations. With these tests completed, the trams are now awaiting final handover to the Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) before being introduced into regular operation. “We have successfully completed the homologation process for the new vehicle type,” said Jan Šurovský, DPP’s Deputy Chairman of the Board and Technical Director. “I greatly appreciate that the entire project is running according to schedule — which, in the current context of vehicle deliveries, is a major achievement.” According to him, the first units should begin service in about three weeks. The Škoda ForCity Plus 52T is part of the latest generation of trams designed for comfort, efficiency, and sustainability.
