The Prague 1 district is preparing to negotiate with Prague’s city leadership to increase the tourist tax. Currently, the law sets the maximum fee at 50 CZK (approximately €2) per person per night, but local officials believe this amount is inadequate. The last increase in tourist tax came in 2021 when it rose from 21 CZK to 50 CZK per night due to a change in legislation. However, officials argue that this rate is still too low compared to other European cities. The Prague City Council approved a public tender for securing construction supervision during the restoration of this historic theater, which will include a comprehensive modernization of its stage technology. Flora Metro Station in Prague is preparing for a significant reconstruction. The scope of this renovation will be comparable to the recent upgrades at Jiřího z Poděbrad station. This announcement was made on Monday, October 7, by the Prague Public Transport Company (DPP). A tender for the construction project has already been announced, with a total contract value of CZK 1.16 billion. For two weeks, a light installation by German visual artist Franz John will illuminate the facade of the Goethe-Institut in Prague. The construction of Prague’s new Metro D line has achieved a significant milestone with workers completing a 468-meter-long tunnel connecting the new line with Metro Line C. The tunnel opens 30 meters behind Pankrác station towards Budějovická. It will remain sealed until Metro D is fully operational. With this breakthrough, all tunnel excavations for the first segment of Metro D have been successfully completed. “This connector is crucial for operational reasons,” explained Deputy Mayor Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates). “Trains will run back and forth between Pankrác and the Kačerov depot every morning and evening, until the new depot at Písnice on Line D is ready.” The Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) began construction of Metro Line D in 2022, with the section between Pankrác and Písnice. Two Rottweilers broke free, possibly by tearing through a fence, and unleashed chaos on Sunday morning in Šimůnkova Street, Kobylisy (Prague 8). Their rampage left one dog dead, another dog injured, and a woman hurt. Police have launched an investigation into the attack. The incident was reported to emergency line 158 early Sunday morning. “We received information that two dogs were roaming the streets, attacking people and other dogs,” said police spokesman Jan Daněk. Upon arrival, officers identified the two animals as Rottweilers. “It appears they broke through their owner’s fence and escaped,” Daněk added. The consequences of the attack were serious. One dog was fatally injured, while another dog and a woman sustained non-fatal injuries. “The dogs’ owner was contacted and has since secured the animals. The police are now investigating the entire matter,” Daněk explained. Although the situation was alarming, emergency medical services were not called to the scene, according to rescue service spokesperson Karel Kirs.
