For the first time in history, more than one million Czechs may visit Croatia on vacation this year. In 2o22, slightly less than 850,000 people visited, the second highest number after 2017. Domestic travel agencies are already reporting a fifth to a quarter increase in interest in visits to the seaside country. Although prices in Croatia have risen significantly since last year, they remain lower than in the Czech Republic. Food costs, for example, jumped by almost 17 percent year on year in March, compared to 24 percent in the Czech Republic. Furthermore, the Czech koruna has strengthened significantly against the euro in the last year, which Croatia switched to this year. The koruna is at its strongest against the euro since 2008, making shopping in Croatia far more inexpensive than last year. The exchange rate against the euro was around 24.50 last summer, and it could be around 23.30 this summer. When we consider the aforementioned lower inflation in Croatia, it is more expensive than last year from the Czech perspective, but the year-on-year increase is notably lower than what the Czechs are used to from their home country. In March, Croatia’s annual inflation rate was approximately ten percent,...

The United Kingdom has long been a popular destination for passengers departing from Prague Airport. A new connection to the East Midlands region will be added in November, said Jiří Vyskoč, Executive Director of Air Business Development at Prague Airport. Prague Airport will offer flights to Nottingham, Derby, and Leicester twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays. During the winter, UK carrier Jet2.com will also operate a series of pre-Christmas flights from Prague to Edinburgh on Thursdays and Sundays from November 30 to December 17. Jet2.com currently operates five scheduled services from Prague Václav Havel Airport – Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester and Newcastle. Flights to East Midlands Airport will then operate from 10 November until 20 May 2024. The East Midlands-Prague line was operational until March 2020, and its reintroduction reflects rising demand in both markets. “I believe that the direct flight from East Midlands Airport will be appealing not only to British tourists but also to Czech passengers flying to Nottingham, Leicester, or Derby,” Vyskoč added. “We have seen strong demand for city breaks this winter season,” said Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays.
Beginning next year, the X-ray equipment used for security checks at Prague Airport will be gradually replaced. According to airport spokesman Klára Divková’s, the new equipment will allow travelers to leave their electronic gadgets inside their bags. The upgrade will also remove the current limitations on the number of liquids that travelers can bring with them. The change will affect only Terminal 2, which handles flights to Schengen countries. The airport’s administration anticipates that the improvements will be finished by 2026. As a result, passengers may expect a more comfortable and seamless experience when going through security procedures. The new X-ray machines will use computer tomography technology, which allow all liquids and electronic gadgets to stay inside the bags. Passengers will no longer be required to report liquids or be limited to the 100 cc restriction that has been in effect since 2006. Establishment of such scanners is also supposed to help in speeding up the security check-in procedure at airports, the report adds. Milan Linate Airport was the first in Europe to adopt the smart screening systems and will soon be followed by several other European airports in the coming year. The UK is moving forward with plans to implement...

Korean Air will connect Prague with Seoul, South Korea, every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The fourth connection on Saturdays will be added from June. This new route will significantly boost the currently absent capacity not only to Korea, but also to other destinations in Asia with traditionally strong demand, for example Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, alongside Indonesia and Australia, using connecting flights from Seoul. Regular flights were last operated on the route in March 2020. Resumptions of long-haul connections are one of the top priorities for Jiří Pos, Chairman of the Prague Airport Board of Directors: “This is an important milestone not only on the way to resuming operations and returning to the 2019 figures, but also in terms of building a network of direct routes to Asia. Korea is one of the markets with the highest demand within the Asian region,” Mr. Pos said. “At the heart of the Korean Air’s Central European network, Prague is a flagship destination that boasts centuries of rich history and cultural heritage. The service resumption will give us an opportunity to pick up where we left off in fostering active exchanges between the two countries in many different fields.” Jeong Soo Park, Korean Air...
Sloup Castle is a rock castle located in the northern part of the Czech Republic. The castle dates all the way back to the 14th century AD when the area it is in was part of the Kingdom of Bohemia. Due to its strategic position, Sloup Castle was a formidable stronghold. Nevertheless, the castle did not serve this defensive function throughout its history, having undergone several transformations. Most recently, Sloup Castle was acquired by the House of Kinský, who turned the landmark into a tourist attraction. The Historical Origins Of Sloup Castle Sloup Castle is situated in the town of Sloup v Čechách (meaning “Sloup in Bohemia”), in Liberec, the northernmost part of Bohemia. The castle lies about 117.5 km from Prague. Sloup Castle sits on top of a 33 m high sandstone rock column, providing its long-dead occupants with a commanding view of the surrounding alluvial valley. Incidentally, the word “sloup” means “column” in Czech, an apt description of the outcrop on which the castle stands. Although Sloup Castle was founded during the Middle Ages, the rocky outcrop on which it was built was already occupied during the prehistoric period. The archaeological evidence from the site includes artifacts from the Globular...
