There are several lavender fields in the Czech Republic. Sometimes a trip to the South of the country, across the plains and hills of Moravia, turns into a real discovery. In the season of lavender blooming, purple-emerald patches of fields surprise unprepared travelers. And the prepared ones come for photo sessions, for lavender flowers and a lot of products from the fragrant plant. In Starovičky in the Břeclav region, the purple color of lavender shines through the rape and cereal fields in the summer. Siblings Stanislav, Lucie and Tereza Bíz have had a lavender farm for eight years now. People can find a small piece of French Provence a few hundred meters outside the village, as they know it from the photos. The history of this farm began in 2014 when more than 40 thousand lavender bushes were planted. Residents gradually came to terms with the fact that instead of grapes, traditional for this region, their neighbor decided to grow lavender. But later, many people appreciated that it is both beautiful and profitable. The lavender fields quickly became a great tourist attraction. Many people get there when they come to the Lednice-Valtice region, an area of traditional winemaking and UNESCO...
Spain on Monday has listed most areas of the Czech Republic as risk area due to the rising number of coronavirus infections in the country. South Moravia has been exempted from the new requirements for the time being. Czechs traveling to Spain will need a PCR or antigen test that is not older than 48 hours, or a certificate of full vaccination, or proof of recovery. The new measure is in force until 18 July and applies to both the Spanish mainland and the islands. People heading to Spain must also fill out a medical form and receive a QR code. In the Czech Republic, coronavirus infection has increased in recent days. The reproduction number has now jumped to 1.3, and is at its highest since the beginning of this year. The epidemic situation is deteriorating again in Spain, with the disease spreading mainly among young people who are not vaccinated. Only two countries have higher rates than Spain: Cyprus and Portugal, although the latter is already seeing improvements according to the MyWorldInData website, a database promoted by Oxford University. The difference between the number of infections per capita between countries is abysmal: Germany has slightly more than seven per...

The Czech Health Ministry has banned Czechs from travelling to Russia, Tunisia and other countries due to the spread of COVID-19 variants there, the ministry said on Tuesday. The Czech Republic on Monday recorded a week-on-week rise in new cases to 157 from 118 a week ago, a sign of a potential turn in the declining trend that has been in place since the latest wave of infections peaked in March. The travel ban will take effect on Thursday for Russia and next week for Tunisia. Both countries have recorded surges in new cases in recent days. The ministry added Russia, Tunisia, Paraguay, and Namibia to a dozen others including India and Brazil where non-essential travel has already been banned. Tunisia is a popular tourist destination for Czechs. The government has called a special session for Thursday to discuss a response to the spread of the Delta variant, first identified in India. The Czech Republic has so far identified 120 cases of the Delta variant, believed to be more transmissible than previous variants, the country’s National Institute of Public Health said. It has fully vaccinated over 3.1 million people and had used just over 8 million vaccine doses as of...
Europe is opening up to Americans and other visitors after more than a year of COVID-induced restrictions. But travelers will need patience to figure out who´s allowed into which country, how, and when. Meanwhile, the welcoming mood isn´t always mutual. U.S. borders, for example, remain largely closed to non-Americans. Here´s a look at current entry rules in some popular European tourist destinations. One caveat: While these are the regulations as written by governments, travelers may meet hiccups as airlines or railway officials try to make sense of them. FRANCE If you´re vaccinated, come to France. But only if you got one of the four EU-approved vaccines: Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson. That works for Americans – as long as they can produce official proof of vaccination – but not for large swaths of the world like China and Russia where other vaccines are used. France’s borders are officially reopened. Vaccinated visitors from outside Europe and a few “green” countries will still be asked for a negative PCR test no older than 72 hours, or a negative antigen test of no more than 48 hours. Unvaccinated children will be allowed in with vaccinated adults, but will have to show...
As of June 21st, the Czech Republic is open for American tourists. After a year, the European Union has advised its member nations to reopen their borders for Americans, and citizens from a few other countries. On June 21st the United States officially joins the list of ‘Green Countries’ that are allowed into the country. This follows Foreign Minister Jakub Kulhanek’s recent announcement on Twitter. Kulhanek stated that Americans will be allowed to visit the Czech Republic for any reason, including tourism. Besides the United States, five other countries were added to the green list on the same day. These include Albania, Hong Kong, Lebanon, North Macedonia, and Taiwan. The European Union still needs to decide what vaccination certificates are acceptable for entry into their respective countries. America uses the same vaccines as the EU. Therefore, the clarification of acceptable certificates from Americans should be easy to determine. In pre-pandemic 2019, Americans were fifth place for tourism with overnight stays. In fact, Americans accounted for 1.4 million overnight stays that year out of the overall 27.2 million overnight stays.
