Wizz Air is launching two more regular connections from Václav Havel Airport Prague. Effective July 2021, the carrier plans to operate flights from Prague to Rome and Sicily, offering passengers direct routes to the Italian capital via Fiumicino Airport up to four times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. In addition, Wizz Air will offer three frequencies a week on the route to Catania located on the popular Mediterranean island. Data Autotrans, a local bus operator, is launching a new bus service. The company offers a direct connection from Prague to Šumava, or ‘Bohemian Forest’. It is the only bus thus far to provide a direct connection to the scenic destination. The journey will take passengers from Prague via Mirovice, Blatna, Horažďovice, Rabí, Sušici, Kašpersky Mountains, Kvilda, Modrava, Srní and on to Prášily. It is a long-distance journey, and Data Autotrans reportedly wants to let the service run on Saturdays, Sundays, and on public holidays. The bus leaves Prague at 8 am on Saturdays from Florenc station. At the Kašpersky Mountains stop and all of the stops beyond it, the bus service is only accessible by calling, ie by phone at least one hour in advance. Czech rail infrastructure manager SŽ has selected the consortium Sudop Praha and Olomouc-based engineering consultancy Moravia Consult to undertake the feasibility study into the planned Prague – Hradec Králové – Wrocław high-speed line. The contract is worth CZK 12.6m with final reports due by November 2022. SŽ presented its overall plans for the new high-speed network in April. Planning for the new lines is taking place in three phases: the first strategic phase was undertaken between 2014 and 2018 and confirmed the need for and basic outline of the new routes. The current pre-investment phase, which will conclude around 2023, includes detailed feasibility studies. Once feasibility work is complete this will lead to outline planning approval enabling the final construction management planning to take place in 2023-25, leading to the issue of building permits for construction to begin from 2025 onwards. The first flights from Dubrovnik to New York and Los Angeles are due to commence in late June 2021 – although tickets aren’t on sale yet. The company says that tickets will be on sale from May 24th and both routes are initially set to operate until the end of October 2021. Flights to New York will be on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, while services to LA will be on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Vaccinated Czechs will be able to travel to a number of countries without submitting a coronavirus test or being quarantined, avowed Jakub Kulhánek, Minister of Foreign Affairs, in an interview with CNN Prima News. He also explained how the pilot system, which Kulhánek wants to implement with some states as quickly as possible, will work. “In the first phase, we want to set up a pilot project, in which we will agree with our neighbors, such as Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, but also Germany, that our fellow citizens who are already vaccinated will be able to travel freely in neighboring countries,” Kulhánek said. According to the minister, the pilot project should be launched within a few weeks. EgyptAir will begin operating a weekly flight between Egypt’s Red Sea resort of Hurghada and Prague starting 23 May 2021. According to an official statement by the national carrier on Thursday, there will be two flights weekly between Hurghada and Prague in June as part of efforts to promote tourism to the country. EgyptAir already operates two weekly flights between Cairo and Budapest on Fridays and Tuesdays. The flight will be operated by the airline’s latest Airbus A220-300, which is able to accommodate 140 passengers. “We see an interesting potential for flights from Prague to other destinations in Egypt, which we are negotiating with different carriers,” said Jaroslav Filip, Director of Aviation at Prague Airport. Prague’s Václav Havel Airport is slowly crawling back to life. In May, other airlines announced their return to Prague, and a number of carriers will also expand their operations to other destinations.
