The first Bavarian-Czech rail summit in Furth im Wald dealt with improving the connection between Prague and Munich, especially the increase in train speed and capacity rail links. Transport Minister Dan Ťok signed at the summit with his Bavarian counterpart Joachim Herrmann joint statement on improving cross-border infrastructure, which aims to shorten the 2030 route between Prague and Munich under four hours. The declaration is aimed at increasing train speeds and increasing track capacity. The trip now takes at least 4 hours and 38 minutes by train. “We have agreed to build a rail route from Munich via [the border crossings of] Furth im Wald and Česká Kubice to Prague, which will compete with cars and be a suitable alternative to air transport. In the first phase, we will shorten the journey time to 4 hours 15 minutes, the ultimate goal is 3 and a half to four hours,” Transport Minister Dan Ťok said, according to daily Pražský deník. Emirates on Tuesday announced it will add a second daily flight between Dubai and Prague, after seeing steadily growing passenger numbers on the route. The new Emirates flight will commence from July 1 to meet the increasing demand for both inbound and outbound travel, the airline said in a statement. It added that the second daily flight will be operated by a Boeing 777-300ER with a capacity of 360 seats, boosting inbound tourism through the additional 262,800 seats a year it will provide. Emirates‘ flight EK137 will leave Dubai at 15:30 and arrive in Prague at 19:55. The return flight EK138 will leave Prague at 21:35 and arrive in Dubai at 05:30 the following day. The new flight complements the existing schedule operated by an Emirates A380 which currently departs Dubai at 08:35 as EK139 landing in Prague at 13:00 and returns as EK140 departing Prague at 15:55 landing in Dubai at 23:50 daily. The Czech Republic has the seventh most powerful passport in the world for 2018, according to an annual ranking system. A recent study by Henley & Partners, a London-based consulting firm that specializes in citizenship services, rates world passports based on how much visa-free travel they entitle their owner to. People carrying a Czech passport can easily enter 173 countries, along with Malta and New Zealand. Singaporean and Japanese passports have been determined the most powerful in the world for 2018. The two countries overtook Germany from their 2017 rankings of fourth and fifth respectively to claim the number-one position. Coming in third are the passports of France, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Finland, Sweden and South Korea. They all have visa-free access to 178 countries. The British passport has remained joint fourth, while the USA has remained fifth on the list. The rankings are published every year and are based on the number of countries a passport gives a person access to without the need for a visa.
