Czech shooter Jiří Lipták outlasted teammate David Kostelecký in a shoot-off to win men’s trap gold on Thursday at the Tokyo Olympics. The 39-year-old held his nerve to beat off a challenge from his teammate David Kostelecký, 46, who was making his sixth Olympic appearance, at the Asaka Shooting Range. The top position changed hands between them and they finished tied for first place on 43 targets out of 50. But Liptak, who took silver in the European Championships and finished first after the qualifying rounds at Tokyo 2020, won when he hit seven targets to Kostelecky’s six in the shoot off. “It was our big wish to stand next to each other on the podium and it happened here. At Friday’s opening ceremony at the Tokyo Olympics, the Czech Olympians walked in clothing designed by designer Zuzana Osako. The collection was praised by both Czech flag bearers Petra Kvitová and Tomáš Satoranský but also by the U.S. Forbes magazine, which ranked it among the eight most remarkable Olympic fashion collections at the opening ceremony. The traditional blue print technique, which was used on men’s vests and women’s jackets, was chosen to combine Czech and Japanese culture. Slovenia’s Benjamin Savsek won gold in the men’s canoe slalom on Monday ahead of silver medal winner Lukáš Rohan from the Czech Republic. Savsek finished the race in 98.25 seconds. He was followed by Rohan in 101.96 seconds. The bronze medal went to Sideris Tasiadis of Germany in 103.70 seconds, who was a silver medalist in the 2012 London Games. The Czech Republic launched their Olympic hoop dreams in Tokyo on Sunday with a 84-78 win against Iran, holding off a late rally by the Iranians who cut the lead all the way down to four points with less than a minute to go. Patrik Auda scored 16 points, Blake Schilb added 14 and the Czech Republic wasted most of a 22-point lead before holding on to defeat Iran. Jan Vesely added 11 for the Czech Republic. Two more members of the Czech Olympic team have tested positive for COVID-19, taking the total to six, and the country’s Olympic Committee has launched an investigation into a charter flight bringing athletes to Tokyo. On Saturday, July 24, in the Prague Louka complex (K Sádkám 158, on the bank of the Vltava river, opposite the Velká Chuchle horse racetrack), the Titan Park will open its gates to public.
