Child Dies After Accident at Tractor Rally Near Prague
Prague Morning
A child died on May 2 during a tractor rally in the village of Libeř in Central Bohemia, near Prague.
Emergency services, including a helicopter, were dispatched to the scene, but resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful. Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
According to emergency responders, multiple units were called shortly after 2 p.m. A medical team, a rescue crew and an air ambulance intervened.
“We treated a tragic incident involving a child. Despite prolonged resuscitation, the injuries were incompatible with life and the doctor had to confirm death at the scene,” said Monika Nováková, spokesperson for the Central Bohemian Emergency Medical Service.
Police confirmed that criminal investigators are handling the case. “We are dealing with the incident on suspicion of manslaughter,” said police spokesperson Michaela Richterová.
The accident took place during a local tractor festival, an annual event in Libeř that features historic tractors, cars, motorcycles and other machinery and is typically attended by families with children.
Information reported by the news agency Aktu.cz states that a minor fell from the cabin of a moving tractor and ended up under the rear wheel. The child was then run over by a flatbed truck following behind.
Authorities have not released further details, citing the sensitivity of the case. Local officials and volunteer firefighters also declined to comment while the investigation is ongoing.
“We will comment once the matter has been properly investigated,” Libeř mayor Jaroslav Hrubý said briefly by phone, according to Novinky.cz.
The investigation remains open.
