Czech Design Week Festival Marks a Decade Milestone with Unveiling of New Generation Project

Czech Design Week Festival is gearing up to mark its 10th anniversary this year with an exciting event called the New Generation project.

The festival will take place from September 7th to 10th, 2023 at Prague’s Mánes Exhibition Hall.

Czech Design Week will showcase the impressive work of young designers and artists, highlighting their unique talents. In addition to the usual display of contemporary designs from various creators, this year’s festival introduces the New Generation project.

It will feature a selection of the youngest artists who are students or recent graduates in the fields of art and design. Thanks to a collaboration with the We’re Next fashion show, the festival will also have a presence at the new UMPRUM Technology Centre building.

Lukáš Pipek, the director of Czech Design Week festival, shared, “Our focus at Czech Design Week has always been on discovering and supporting talented designers and artists. Over the past few years, we’ve noticed that the younger generation in our country continues to uphold the distinctive Czech design spirit through their hard work, creativity, and respect for the past. The New Generation project is our way of showcasing this to the public.”

This project also strengthens the festival’s successful partnership with the We’re Next show, which spotlights emerging fashion designers and university students. The We’re Next show will return to the UMPRUM Technology Centre this September.

As Czech Design Week enters its 10th year, its main focus remains on discovering fresh design perspectives, highlighting talented independent creators, and collaborating with popular brands that showcase the latest trends. The festival will also welcome international guests to join in the celebration.

For the second time, the works of the exhibitors will be displayed through panel installations in the main exhibition space, the Mánes Exhibition Hall. Last year’s edition proved that the contemporary designs, often blurring the line between design and art, fit perfectly in the gallery setting of this iconic functionalist building.

The festival will feature a diverse array of talks, discussions, and workshops, aiming to make design and art accessible to everyone. Czech Design Week festival is scheduled from Thursday, September 7th to Sunday, September 10th, 2023.

The London Design Fair will be the festival’s main international partner this year, taking place two weeks later, from September 21st to 24th, 2023 at the Truman Brewery in London, where Czech design will also have a presence.
