To mark the 25th anniversary of the Czech Republic joining NATO, the Czech Air Force will stage a flyover over Prague on Tuesday.
Six aircraft, comprising two formations flying in quick succession, will fly above the capital at 10:30 AM.
Three JAS-39 Gripen fighters will depart from Čáslav Air Base, while Germany will contribute two Eurofighter Typhoons and an Airbus A-400M Atlas transport plane.
This event coincides with former U.S. President Bill Clinton’s visit to Prague, where he will attend a security conference on Tuesday. Look up around 10:30 a.m.
At about 10:20 a.m., the aircraft will take off in South Bohemia, forming a symbolic V-shape before continuing along the Vltava River. At approximately 10:30 a.m., the formation will fly over Prague about 200 meters above ground level.
According to the Czech army, the jets will fly directly over Charles Bridge. They will then turn east and return to their respective bases.
“Determining the flight path over Prague involved balancing safety with offering an exciting spectacle for the public,” explained Michal DanÄ›k from the Air Force Headquarters. “We opted for an altitude that prioritizes safety while ensuring a visually impressive display.”
Extensive planning preceded the event, including route selection, noise management, and coordination with air traffic control at Prague Ruzyne Airport.
“Scheduling large-scale flyovers with our allies is a challenge due to their ongoing operational commitments on NATO’s eastern flank,” commented Michal Kudyn from the Air Force Headquarters’ Combat Training Department. “We are immensely grateful for the support of our German counterparts, who, as always, have extended their maximum cooperation for this event.”
